Online Notebook -- Any Out There?

I recently added another instructor who wants to keep a notebook of my progress. By moving from a chain studio to an independent, my own notebook (small moleskine) is becoming more important to me. A habit of taking random lessons around the world makes losing that notebook kinda scary.

Other posts mention excel files, flat ASCII (I guess that is Unicode now), and other simple electronic forms.

Is anyone aware of an online notebook that I and my instructors could read & edit? Google Notebook seems to partially fit the bill, but I'm not totally convinced. Livejournal is another possibility, but is really targeted elsewhere.

The idea seems like a potential traffic drive for DF, or even a source of revenue.

Any thoughts?

If all you're wanting is a simple, plain format for storing your notes online, why not just make your own? Webhosts are cheap, and you can upload a regular Notepad file quickly, and view it anywhere.

Also, even the cheapest hosts have some sort of editor built-in. Take your laptop to the studio, log in to your host, whip up a simple webpage and voila. As a bonus you can include pictures, video, music, etc. of your practice sessions.

How about Microsoft OneNote? It does all kinds of stuff and you can share it and they can edit or add to the file. Not sure how much it costs, but Google is similar and I think free!

True, I could make a web page, but I was thinking of an online editor that would support diagrams and would allow the teacher to add comments. Some method to tie in a standard or custom syllabus would be good as well.

This may, in the end, not be all that great, but if something was already out there, it would be good to try it out.

Like dancecat I also use Microsoft endnote and it works for me. You have all your notes organize and you can put videos and photos if you like.

Oh wow...this is way too technical for me, what happened to pen and paper ;-)....I use my computer a lot but had not thought about it for taking notes for dancing.

Your google documents idea prompted me to look around and I found google notebook. This gives a text based functionality with tags, search capability, sharing, and other features not yet discovered. This is really close to the original query. The only downside is drawing pictures may be a bit of a kludge.

Try pbwiki . com. There is a free demo on the main page, and basic wiki is free. Wiki allows anyone without much technical knowledge to edit the pages.

Google Documents!

I second Google Docs. Aside from documents, Google Docs provides a spreadsheet and a presentation tool -- and you can share your stuff with others either to view or update. Google also offers Page Creator, which lets you create your own web page and upload anything you want to it -- including photos and other graphic files. It takes literally minutes to create and publish a web page, even if you don't know anything about creating a web page -- and you can choose to keep the page invisible to anyone but yourself as well. And then Google also has Blogger. There's a whole assortment of tools within Google that are all free and gaining more function every day. My high school daughter now does all her homework in Google docs and stores everything there for quick access from anywhere. And then she uses Gmail to mail her homework to her teachers. Can't remember the last time I really needed a printer at home -- mine has been turned off for months.

I have a Wacom pen tablet that I use with OneNote and graphics programs. I mostly fiddle around with it, but I think it would be handy for drawing dance notes. Thanks for the idea!
