Opinion: London? New York? Somewhere else?

time

First-- the coaches I mentioned, are still training current competitors thru world class level- ( Irvine, Eggleton, Hilton for e.g. ). We, as coaches, do not sit back and watch the tide go out. I think , without reservation, all are pretty much up to current trends ( many of them developed same ) What many do not realise, is what YOU all think is new , has been around for ever, and is just re-constituted . ( Primarily Standard ), the Latin "Field " again, being " shaped ", by the likes of Donnie, Stylianos, the Fletchers etc.to name but a few , has a little more controversy on its direction .

Sam-- can hardly wait !!!-- and by the way, there are places to stay, around London , which are quite reasonable . Like most large cities, you have to research for the good deals . Plus-- the best public transport system .

Yeah, no kidding. You don't want to take from the champions. You want to take from the people who trained the champions.

And since the question was "money and obligations aside," I don't think NYC beats London.

well, TT, if you can get me a good deal on a used money tree, i'll come to london for a year of training with the masters and dancing salsa with you! :)

aside from the constant surveillance, london sounds great! <g>

Everything else aside then 100% London. If you want to practice every night and be surrounded by world champions then that is the only place you will do it.

You will not find teachers and studios anywhere in the world like you will in London. Even if you go for a month, you will come back a MUCH better dancer then you were, believe me.

There are a lot of top pro dancers in New Jersey because, I think, NYC is took expensive to live. Most of these dancers have immigrated from Eastern Europe where they were champions (or highly ranked) in their own country.

OK, pet peeve:

you emigrate from
you immigrate to

I'll crawl back into my hole now ;-)

nik.

Kind of awe inspiring !! It can intimidate a novice , but reality is--- they are not really concerned with your prowess-- or lack of it-- just glad to see you appreciate the quality in abundance at all levels.
For b/room people-- if you have never been to B/ Pool-- you should put it high on your agenda, even , just to watch .

I am dying to go to Blackpool one day! *swoon*

Re: Blackpool: I'd also heard that it was going to close but the dance festivals alone make enough money to keep it open. Aside from the British open, there's the Closed British, Medalist competitions, Finals for all the lower grades and are hosting the Nationals for the universities this year.
I also heard that renting the smallest space available for the Exhibition was 10k GBP a week, at current rates that's nearly 20k USD - outrageous, but obviously a lot of people are willing to pay it!

Anyway, London for Ballroom has got to be the best at the moment: we have the Hiltons, Hilliers, Gleaves, John Wood & Chris Hawkins: that's got to cover a few decades worth of world champions. I've seen Wilkins & Demidova have lessons with the Hiltons and John Wood, and I know the Hiltons train several world champions pro, amatuer, past and present. I can see a time when Italy might be the place, but not quite yet!
Unfortunately London is sprawled out and getting anywhere can take ages no matter what mode of tansport you use.
