Other than throwing them out...

Suggestions for over active shoes, as in they have had such an "active" life, they have practically taken on a life of their own and umm, smell :?

Any tips, suggestions or cures, other than throwing them out?

(or hiding them underneath the floorboard of an ex   )

Leather ones could probably be cut up to make heel covers, but most likely short-lived ones given that the grain leather uppers are fairly thin.

When my old pair of standard shoes ends up completely dead (as opposed to mostly dead aka nice and comfortable) I've contemplated cutting the better one open to make pattern and trying to make a new pair re-using the 1" heel pieces.

 Is there no end to your talents  :D

Well, I've been talking about it for a year and a half, but haven't done it yet.
I could blame it on being too busy everytime I'm in NY to go look for suitable leather and not wanting to order it sight unseen... or I could just admit it isn't a pressing project.

I guess that means making them into a planter is out?

Actually, using dead shoes as a pattern for custom made shoes is a great idea, even if you don't do it yourself. A cobbler could probably learn a lot by the way you wear your shoes out, right?

I've found that keeping a pair of deodarant "sneaker balls" in them works wonders to keep dance shoes from getting smelly.

None of my dance shoes smell. I never wear the same shoes two days in a row, and this gives them ample time to air out. As soon as I get home from dancing, I take them out of the shoe bag and put them in an airy place to dry out. Even my oldest shoes, while pretty trashed, don't smell.

That's great, Larinda, about donating used shoes to the college!

:nope: :nope: :nope: Have you been PMing with Sabor. You are starting to sound like him

Danoo and Adwiz, good suggestions. Anyone else?

get some shoe spray un un-smell them :P

Any recommendations on brand? I've had to "retire" several pairs of shoes for smell alone, and I'd rather not have to (gets expensive)!

I don't really have a specific brand tip, but you'll find it in a regular shoe shop. I have used it on slippers, Birkenstock-type, that I've walked in barefoot and accumulated lots of sweat. It works fine for a while, then I have to spray again. (There is a debate whether this kind of anti-germ chemicals is something we really want to use, for antibiotic resistance issues among other things. It is up to you.)

yukk! now why are we discussing smelly shoes!! :? .. no one should have smelly shoes.. ESPECIALLY WOMEN!! :x .. tsk tsk tsk.. shocking.. :(

i smell anything funky on or around anyone.. and i tell u straight.. its gona affect our relationship

Hush, I am going to tell you a secret... women do not also sweat, they also go to the bathroom! (for other purposed than powdering their noses)

Please, have this chair. Sit down. I understand that you are shocked.
