Patrick Swayze

I unfortunately just read that Patrick Swayze is suffering from a serious illness and I hope and pray for his full recovery. I hope the dance community keeps him in their prayers too.

Yeah, I heard earlier today. It's pancreatic cancer and it's not good. If I were a praying person, I'd pray for him, but I'm not so I'll just send healing thoughts to him and his family.

Awful. It seems that umpteen people have cancer right now - and many of them are very young. Is that just in my world? I have to wonder if we are paying for some idiocy in child care or nutrition?

Thoughts to Patrick....

If I remember correctly, Pavarotti also had pancreatic cancer.

No, it is not just in your world that you are hearing about it. Also in my world, albeit not that many in my 'immediate' world ie. people I personally know well. I can think of three quick reasons we may be hearing about it more and more is because

- the infant/child mortality rate is much lower, and people are living longer

- as a society we are meeting more and more people either personally or 'thanks to the media'

- we as a population seem to be suffering from increased stresses possibly putting more strain on an already strained immune system

The above does not take into account all the other things that may be going on that we/our body is not aware of - food additives, 'stuff' going into the water/air and being reingested etc

I heard it on the radio this morning and was thinking about it on my way into work. I know that we all have to go sometime, but it is the how this happens and the quality of the how...

OMG...that is not the cancer to get....(not like there is a good cancer, but that is a tough one)...my sincere heartfelt thoughts and prayers

A lot depends on whether it's in the head or tail of the pancreas. One is quite curable if caught early, the other not so much.

I was very sad to hear this news as well...and will be sending good thoughts his way.

I did hear on the news last night that the initial reports of the severity of his condition were exaggerated. They did not however elaborate on exactly how exaggerated, but it may not be as bad as originally thought.

It is being said that the National Enquirer says he only has "five weeks to live". That is being rubbished. However, he is apparently having chemo and all the resulting side effects - lose of weight etc.

One interesting thing I heard on the UK radio just now (if the radio is to be believed!) is that Patrick Swayze and his wife are private pilots and had been flying and landing in the grounds of the hospital where he is having his treatment to keep it a private matter/as private as possible. I guess, to avoid some of the more sensationalisation the media is capable of. Someone somewhere then released the news (hospital staff maybe?), National Enquirer got it and of course ran with it and now it is all in the media and of course... the internet.

Sometimes, I do wish the media would leave it well alone, until the person concerned decides to make it public eg. Rudy Giuliani and prostate cancer (I seem to recall even Larry King had prostate cancer? Please don't quote me in case am recalling incorrectly!) .

There was a time when the media respected privacy - which was good. For example, they would never 'pan in' on someone in pain and anguish but would actually avoid them. Perhaps in some cases though they sometimes respected privacy too much when it should have been outed - in particular cases of overt hypocrisy.
