They danced to "A Whole New World," from Aladdin (which gets my hopes up a smidge that they're dancing together again).

Saw the video on a friend's FB page, and they were lovely. Of course.

Are they dancing together again, does anyone know? Or was this a one-time performance?

And it was announced that Emmanuel and Liana are retiring tonight! Crazy times in the American style world!

I'd be really surprised if this were anything more than their filling an engagement they'd agreed to before deciding to retire.

A pro who was at the show said that off stage it was *pretty* tense between them- and he was fairly sure they were just fulfilling an obligation.

And then I came across an article talking about Peter and his new partner (Asta Sigvaldadottir) - I can't post the link because I'm a new member...

But I know Sasha is coaching - She's coming to do some group classes at one of the studios where I take tomorrow!

Is Liana going to get another partner?
I hope so because I'm obsessed with her...but imagine what kind of search she'll have to go on in order to find someone that has Emmanuel's innate sense of rhythm and his stage presence and how damn lovable he is...not to mention how much FUN he has on the floor. If she gets a new partner I'm totally gonna have a lot of side eye for a while.

And OMG, I didn't know the Perzhus retired!

The world has gone topsy turvy. But I did find these on Peter/Asta:

Remove the spaces:)

That was the link I couldn't post (as a newbie)! I agree about Liana. She's so young that it would be crazy for her not to have a new partner, but...

It has happened before though with top amateurs and pros alike... I really hope she doesn't fall this way though.

WHOA. Didn't see that one coming.

Being a dance pro should not be a life sentence... It is kinda selfish to wish that pros never get to move on.

I think it is fabulous when the younger ones still have enough time and energy to go conquer other areas of life. By the time you are my age it is hard to change. Good for her if she decides to retire altogether and find other ways to spend her time.

Selfish, maybe, though I doubt anyone means it in the sense of "pros should have to keep dancing for my entertainment". I'd think it's more likely that we're blind to what other pursuits (raising families, careers in other industries, etc.) dance pros who fade from the scene might be taking on, and as a result we're likely to interpret it as a fall from glory rather than a pursuit of fulfillment in a different arena.

Meanwhile, with the addition of Blackpool, it's gonna be a banner year for the incumbent champions taking over for Emmanuel & Liana and the Perzhus.
