Please help, wedding couple troubles.

I hope some one here can help.. I am working with a wedding couple.. he is Scottish.. does anyone here know of a dance oriented version of "Flow Gently Sweet Afton".. I prefer the "Away in a Manger" music ... but, will take anything close to a dance Waltz beat....

and another problem.. I am Greek, and yes, we invented the kilt.. but, we wear underwear... the groom and his best man don't.. would it be impolite to say " Knees together"... and I thought I would have a problem with "head up, hold the frame"..geez... and the bride to be says nothing...

Thank you .. Oberon

PS... I need the money.. as you can tell.

If the bride-to-be isn't bothered by his lack of pants, then it shouldn't be a problem. Just don't choreograph them anything with high kicks in it...

Lioness.. what Waltz's do you dance to, that have kicks in them... for the man? I have never seen a male lead do any form of kicks.. Oberon

Although not done in closed position, the Pas de Basque (the ballroom variation, not the ballet move) comes to mind.

Hey Pirate Smith. If the Scottish dude doesn't mind his jewels showing, then don't worry about it. Let him make a butt of himself if he wants (pun intended.)

I'd focus on the music. Would help if I could, but I'm not familiar with the pieces. Somebody here probably is.

Oh yeah. And, if you can get them to pre-pay the wedding dance lesson package, that might reduce your stress a bit. Wedding couples are such a pain! Oy!

I wish to retract part of my original post, I have made some very fine friends, here on the internet. Contrary to all the negative aspects and darker side that lurk behind many clicks.. In another group for classical musicians, I have a friend that is Scottish... He has informed me, that I have been the victim of a very common practical joke, by the youth of Scotland, against many older Americans.. Gratefully, my life as a classical pianist, artist, ballroom dancer, has taught me not to "freak out" in public, maintain my calm, and composure, and live my life with a standard of "class".

Which takes me to my original theme of looking for the Waltz music.Although, their stunt has made it seem less urgent now. Oberon

Message to Moderator.. you can delete this posting please.. I have found , on my own, a very beautiful Waltz version of "Flow Gently Sweet Afton"... that should do fine for the wedding... Oberon

a special shout out and Thank you, to pygmalion... this is really my first dealings with a non Greek wedding couples.. oy, you are so right, never appreciated what dance instructors go through with the youth of today..I usually only work with teaching and choreographing "Greek dance styles".. my first foray into ballroom ...Oberon

I wish to express my Thnx, to many of the members here that have responded to my "call for help"... but, I am dealing with a Waltz... I am very familiar with the males doing "flicks" or "ganchos" in the Tangos, Cumbias, Rohos, Rhumbas... etc... it was in the Waltz that I have never seen the males lead any form of kicks.. and yes.. if I have a"bride to be", with talent.. I include "developpes"....(((personal note.. in Greek dancing... the males do upwards of 8 different forms of kicks ..... but, never a woman))).....again.. my Thanks to members here.. Oberon

Just a final post.. I must admit, after these two Scot lads... pulled their prank, I was less than interested in the wedding couple...I was wrong, both couples, the wedding couple and the best man and maid of honor, practiced, listened, worked very hard to learn the choreograph, I must admit, they have been one of the better couples I have worked with, I never would have thought it....Oberon

You just never know. One of my hardest students... turned out to be a shinning light a year later! Great to hear about your couple!
