I must jump in as a DJ and start collecting a movie-and-musical tanda. One piece in this tanda will be "Don´t cry for me Argentina".

Because I have no CD with this title I will extract the audio track from a YT vid, and convert it into mp3.

But which performance shall I take? Which has got the best atmosphere for a romantic moment?

I like Patti LuPone. She was the original "Evita" in the first run of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical.

Of course (personally), I think it's better for listening to than it is for dancing to.

Patti LuPone owns this song. I saw her as Evita on Bway when I was a teenager and thinking of her performance still gives me chills.
I liked Elaine Page's rendition too, but not enough orchestration to dance to. And surprisingly, I was very taken by Karen Carpenter's version. I had to turn off Joan Baez after a few seconds, though.
But can you actually dance tango to this song?

nice version ! her voice sounds clear, and like a little girl, without academic attitude, and, p/h the model for Madonna´s interpretation.
