Practice Partnerships

my husband is a very busy attorney and our skill levels are now so far apart that ...well...we occasionally social dance...and that is about all
 
From my own experience: yes, it's nice to have a practice partner. However, if you are still in a search for a am/am competitive partner, the fact you are practicing with someone may scare potential competitive partners away. No matter how much you stress to everyone that you are "just practicing", I find that people tend to shy away from partnering with someone who already has a practice partner.
 
I'm thinking of starting up a practice partnership with a friend whose competitive partner lives in another town, so they don't get to dance together as often as he would like. And I don't compete in Latin with my current partner, who doesn't really like the style, but I don't want to have my Latin dancing/technique go completely shoddy, so our situation has some potential? We shall see...
