Practice skirt

I'm looking for a good practice skirt that won't brake the bank.
I'm 5'9 and a US size 12.
My standard/smooth performance dress will have a pleated silk skirt. Do I need a similar practice skirt?
What are some reliable websites to order from?

I'm don't know if you need practice skirt similar to your dress, there are probably better experts than I to answer that, but here are a few ideas.

I have one expensive long skirt from dance-america.com (which I actually got on sale, which doesn't happen often with them). Anyway, even if you paid full price for it, which would be at least $100, it is good quality, moves like a dream, and has held up well when washed, so it might be worth it if you can afford it.

My cheap long skirts actually came from ebay :) Not the crappy knock-off dancewear stuff, but Chico's travel knit! If you are persistent in your search, you can find long skirts with godets that are a great weight for dancing and have fullness to them. You may have to keep at it to find one that might work in the right size, but at $20-30, well worth the time.

ebay has them. On that note, I need to find some of those nylon "citi-knit" style black dress pants as mine are old and starting to show it.

There are some good practice skirts on stardanceshop.com. Also keep looking at regular stores. Last summer, I found a long skirt that's perfect to use as a practice skirt at Dress Barn for $40.00

jalie.com has some nice patterns that would work for practicewear. I've never used them personally, but one of the ladies in the costume shop I worked in highly recommended them.

Good to know! I've been looking at a couple of Jalie patterns that look like they'd be great for practice wear, but haven't gotten around to buying them or making anything yet.

does anyone know where to get patterns to make ballroom practice wear?

You can also google "gored skirt pattern" and/or "circle skirt pattern" and find loads of how-to tutorials to draft your own. It takes a little creativity to get the look of some of the fancier skirts, but it was a fun learning process for me.

Got a Dance American skirt for my birthday. Huge difference in the flow of a real dance skirt vs the $4 skirt I got at a thrift store. So excited. Just need to find a shirt to wear with it. I'm switching the order of things. Before, my shirt was red and my skirt was black. Now, my skirt is red so I need to find a black shirt!

I have an outfit from Dance America and love it. Such nice material, right? Doesn't wrinkle when I stuff it in bags or anything.
