Practising Standard or Smooth in Jeans

As far as I'm concerned, it affects my mobility and flexibility
and is costly in wardrobe.

I've torn three pairs of jeans all in the family jewels area while
dancing... It's embarrassing and the pants are usually beyond
repair!

They don't really make very stretchy jeans for men. There also not many men I've seen who wear the new crop of super soft, very comfy designer jeans (e.g. Sevens, Paige Denim, etc.) - they prefer the old standbys of Levi's, Lee's, etc. which are not soft but rather stiff and heavy...

While I too prefer either stretchy, tight or loose black pants, I don't mind jeans as much as the guys here seem to, probably for the above reason.

I think so too. My jeans are stretchy and they don't restrict my movement at all.

I don't know I'm baffled by the comments about how restrictive jeans are. I can't imagine ripping my jeans no matter how contorted I got... Perhaps I just wear much looser fitting jeans?

If it was all about the comfort you would see everyone (without self-image issues) practice in shorts.

Yes, there is something to be said about being comfortable but there is also a lot to be said about getting into character. Jeans do not get you into character. Plus, there is no way jeans are more comfortable than slacks!

lol... your family jewels were obviously screaming out for a little more care & a little more room... good move switching to dance pants. <g>

fwiw, i have some stretchy jeans that i love to practice in. i just never wear them to the *studio* to practice, because i don't care to look... undancerlike. there's definitely a Code of Black commonly worn among the dancing community i'm familiar with. i always feel like i should take a trip to armani & prada, too...

Tore another pair of pants today in the usual place. :(
Not jeans, but cotton Nike pants.
I have them in three colours, and I've torn all three of them...

Those jewels must be craving for attention or something.

I used to practice all the time in jeans (stretch variety) or knit jersey black pants. I recently got a long black practice skirt from Capezio, and now I find that I prefer wearing it to pants for smooth. Interestingly, when I used to wear jeans, I never found them uncomfortable to dance in, but now that I've been wearing a skirt... the skirt seems infinitely more comfortable. It also moves a lot better than my pants. =)

I believe my coaches like the skirt-look better. I think they prefer the general look of it, and it's easier to see/correct my footwork (heel leads/toe leads, etc).

I don't care if my ladies wear jeans, but I always make them roll them up if they do, for this reason. Most of my ladies, however, wear something a little more dressy, and never something so long that I can't see the feet.

Gosh, Tigerlilly, how long are your pants? Mine come right above ankle bone, there is no way they could obscure any footwork.... I usually wear skirt in summer, but in this weather I cannot bring myself to put one on.
