pre-competition disorder

I'm starting to realize that I'm in way over my head going to OSB. I'm going to focus on just dancing as best I can and do what I know. Goals include (1) not worrying about what other people are doing, and (2) being a gracious non-winner.
You got this, lady! we all seem to be feeling that way :p just remember that the bar is REALLY close to the ballroom!

Family member needs to be slapped upside the head. ;) I am also a middle aged heavy woman with a myriad of physical issues. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, I will be at OSB next year and I'm planning on enjoying myself and dancing well for wherever I am in my dancing journey.

I thought about it. Family member wonders why I don't talk about my dancing. Episodes like this are why I don't talk about my dancing. I have a lot of self-image issues, and this just makes it worse.

Just take the escalator, or elevator, down from the Regency Ballroom on the third floor, to the Big Bar on 2.
There's also a couple of restaurants across Nationwide Boulevard than have bars. :)

Ahhh! heatsheets on the dancecomp app, flight tomorrow, last pre-comp lesson tonight and also i got my NEW DRESSSSSSS yasss. it's so pretty. couple small issues with it that are easy to overcome. feedback?!

so far, doing ok with nerves. I am all over my 10MT mental workout.

Tell me more about this app... is it the one literally named "DanceComp"? Are your individual heats on there? I see the generic OSB schedule but it would be great to have a personal heat sheet.

Yes, that's the one. It does show an individual heat list, but not the times - you have to go by the schedule and booklet for that. But you can see your competitors/number of people in your heat, if you're interested in that sort of thing. be careful though, on an iphone that app tends to suck your battery level. It's an alright app, but i find it odd that the icon for "competitions" is the rebel alliance symbol from star wars. they gonna get sued if someone from lucasfilm notices that.

Ok, just going to dump this here before I melt down to the point of blubbering and unintelligible.

I am scheduled to dance Friday/Saturday. I was originally going to drive over on Thursday, until I saw the weather forecast that includes freezing rain, wintry mix, and snow in my city and Columbus that morning/afternoon. So I booked myself a hotel room for tonight (Wed), planning to drive up tonight after my final 6:00 appointment. I'm 99.9% packed.

This morning on the way to work, my car's thermostat was swinging around in a much wider range than usual and the heat was non-existent or inconsistent (it was fine yesterday, in fact had to turn the heat down). Made a last minute detour on my commute to a chain mechanic (ljs I am already in the system) to drop off to have a look-see. Guy at the desk said it could be reason #1, he'll have Joe check it out, but his diagnostic guy is out today so if it's something more complex... well, you get it. So I left the car there and texted a co-worker to pick me up and bring me to work.

I'm just so frustrated... this is literally the worst day possible for my car to act up - it has had almost zero problems up to now - and just got new tires and I aired them up yesterday (pressure dropped commensurate with outside temperature), thought I was good to go. I have a "plan" right now if things don't go well, hoping my car will make it back home without overheating or otherwise becoming non-functional but will have to cancel massage and not sure when getting nails redone (all originally on today's agenda).

I just want to scream and bang on a wall.:punch:

I would want to as well.

I find that the most important part of things going wrong before a competition is to let go of what you can and decide to accept what you can. You definitely need to get there. Nails, another matter. Something went wrong before my last competition and I ended up stripping my nails and going with neat and clean. What I wanted? No. What it should have been? No. OK? Sure. Probably someplace you can get it done there, though more expensively. I concluded that resting and relaxing was more important that time, but if all goes well, you will have a full day there to take care of it.

There are absolutely excellent massages available there. Two are listed under vendors for the comp:
MASSAGE
  • Barbara J. Condon, L.M.T – 865-607-5004
  • Mark Chavkin, L.M.T. – 614-361-9854
I do not know either of these two people, but I have in gotten massages from unknowns in a situation like this and it has been fine. (I know, made me a little nervous, but my very-important-to-my-life massage therapist approved that being better than not getting one when I needed it.) I suspect (hope) that these will be good. Perhaps somebody here knows them--or somebody else-- and will speak up.

While I'm giving you (unasked for) solutions, I'll repeat that yes, I would be read to cry and/or scream, too. Car problems are one of my worst fears before a competition--it's so uncontrollable!!!
