Predictions for 2005

What do you think will change in the dance world in 2005?
Will Salsa get even more popular?
Is the rise in interest in funk music among young people going to lead to a resurgence of disco dancing?
What changes might we expect in the competition circuit?

Is it just me, or don't anyone here break, lock or pop?

Welcome to df. I'm sure that there are people who break, lock, or pop, here, but this is a "partner" dancing forums so that is our main focus.

My prediction for 2005 is the ever growing popularity of reggaeton and banghra.

Yes, that is what I started doing when I was 10 years old. I predict breakdancing will remain strong in 2005, but probably not get any bigger than it is now.

I think (or would like to hope!) that partner dancing as a whole will increase in popularity.

As salsa is "my thing":

- yes, I will say that I think salsa will continue to grow in popularity but I also think that 2005 may be the last year of the "mega" congresses.

- LA might grow even more in 2006 but the rest will have to look at ways of getting dancers through the doors which won't be easy with more and more events being organised. The Annual Salsa Congresses listing has about 96 events for 2005 already  some of which admittedly are still awaiting dates to be set, there may be others that do not take place due to business breakups (or other reasons) and there are others that may be in the organising stages which we have not discovered as yet, to add to the listing. But it seems as if every major town is trying to organise something and we may see "deliberately" smaller events.

- Bachata WILL increase  and a pure all salsa night will become a rarity.

- I would love to say that I think merengue will also increase in popularity this year also but the salsa dancers I know who are willing to dance something other than salsa seem to prefer bachata over merengue :?

- there will be no further discussion of On1 or On2. Everyone will be dancing On3

The Amazing Carnac says......

The rise in Funk music amongst the yewts is due in part to the extreme popularity of DDR (Dance Dance Revolution for the uninitiated). It is possible that the ultra-cool animated dancer "Afro" will cause unsuspecting yewts to "do the hustle" whle hopping and stepping to the beat....

Changes in the competition circuit? I'm betting that more comps drop by the wayside... Diamond Dancesport is yet another casualty of 9/11-Bad Economy-blahblahblah.

Now what do you WANT to see happen in 2005? THAT is the 50 Million $$$ question....

I try not to break (a limb), but I do lock my knees during latin dancing and hope that I don't hear them pop. Does that count?

I predict that DP will *not* volunteer to help tabulate the results for the 2005 DF Awards!

But I predict DF will be so big, SD will need to ask him, and DP won't let him down. ;)

I predict that DP will continue his online flirtations , and that SD will have no shortage of occasions to use these emoticons --> :headwall:
