Purchasing Professional Photo's at Comps

I am curious, Anyone out there ever have an issue with recieving their pics that they ordered from the Professional Photographers at any of the Comp? IE. not recieving them if they were to be mailed, not having changes to them that were supposed to be made, etc.. If so was there any resolution? I am looking at customer service and a bit disapointed w/ a situation I came across. Any thoughts on how to approach a vendor with a problem and get positive results???

Thanks!

I've always had great luck with the ones I've dealt with. The only problem was when I ordered a print as an 8x10 that couldn't be cropped well from the orginal aspect ration... They even tried to give me an 8x12, but it still didn't hold the right aspect...

I have recently ordered pics and didn't recieve some of them that were on my invoice that I obviously paid for ahead of time. Now I feel like I am running in circles leaving messages that never get returned to get them. And of course they were of my line-up. Frustrating. On top of it a 4/6 pic costs $10 a piece!

Ick, that is nasty. I just started shooting the comps here in the New England area - mostly for fun. I can tell you that if your photographer is using good paper and ink, his costs for labor, and materials may run him $5+. I currently charge $5 for a 4x6 or 5x7. I can guarantee you that this does not cover my labor/ costs at all. However, I assume that most people will prefer the digital image ($15) or at least an 8x10 or 13x19 ($10 to $25).

From a customer perspective, these costs may seem quite high, but at the rate which people purchase pictures, the photographers can't make much profit at all.

Of course it is poor business and poor customer service to a) have messed up your order, and b) not responded to you in a timely fashion. I hope you get this resolved.

New England area huh? I am from that area also :) We are neighbors!

I am sure that I will get it resolved, it is just frustrating, and if the pic is good then Idon't mind paying for it, but it pees me off to pay for a good / a service that I never recieve!

I guess I will have to keep calling. Owell

Photogs who would be willing to e-mail digital files to customers would get a metric knat ton more business if they had lower per-shot prices, leaving it up to the customer to get nice glossy prints in whatever size they wished, and saving themselves a lot of labor and materials...

What happened to me was that I never received the photos I ordered. I trying calling and leaving messages. I had a hard time gettting in contact with them, they seem to be in other competitions and they had already finished sending the pictures from mine. At the end, I was able to get in touch with them and they resend the pictures.

So they may not return calls or answer many times you try.... but if you get them, they will normally be very nice about it. They know you will not be calling if you had received what you paid for.

Hi Joe,

Getting the digital file is more than getting a picture - its essentially acquiring the (non commercial) copyright since the implication is that you can do what you want with it. In our area GSR handles most (if not all now) of the photography and they charge $30 (canadian) for the full digital file. Since I like to mess around with pics in photoshop this is terrific for me as I have not figured out yet how to get a good picture of myself dancing! Thus, since I get to preview all their pictures and pick the one that I can use I think this fee is pretty reasonable.

What sort of costs were you referring to?

One photog at a comp we attended (I forget which) wanted $50 for a digital copy of each photo...

I had a wrong photo come in once, but it was partially my fault since I didn't write clearly enough. They thought the number I wrote was a 4, I wrote a 7.

rolls eyes...(neither of which should be confused with a$$pain)..can't you say these things on threads i don't moderate?
