Putting up short hair?

Hi everyone,

First time posting! :D I have to say there are some great topics here and it's fun to go to competitions and recognize some of the people!

Anyway, I have a comp coming up soon, and I have NO IDEA what to do with my hair. I have it cut in an A-line, and at its longest point it just barely touches the base of my neck.

Any suggestions? I did find some old threads, but they didn't quite outline what to do actually do with the hair, which I need because I'm pretty abysmal at any sort of hairstyling. I'll be dancing both standard and Latin.

Thanks!

I have a similar hairstyle, for the last few comps/performances I had my stylist pull it back and put a fake bun over it, and kinda slick the strays in with hair gel. It stayed on well, I could sleep on it for a few nights (just use satin pillowcase).

bottom line is just make sure that the area around your face doesn't move...it may be short enough that the rest will be fine

Did not realise they had comp hairdressers, not that I have been to a lot but I have not seen it here.

I need to work out my hair for my first comp it , it is just above my shoulders and I thought to l twist and clip and let the hair fall over back over the clip, I normally back comb before I twist so it gives it some height, being Easter week-end most of the hairdressers wont be avaialbe and especially on the Sunday.

We will have an early start so will be at the venue by 9.00am

Welcome to DF Silvane! And best of luck to you at your comp!

I'm sure you'll get some more advice on the hair, but for latin you could make sure the front and sides are pretty well plastered down and leave the bottom to swing. This would probably make sure you're not having to deal with hair flying in to your face all the time.

Can't you have it done the day or two before and just sleep on it?

I'm on something of a low budget so I'd rather not have to pay a stylist, although I'd love to just have someone else take care of it all for me... :P Thanks for the suggestions so far; I'll play around and see what I can do.

Any more suggestions would be great!

Hi QPO - I would recommend you buy a cheap hairpiece - that's what I do. I just bought a long ponytail from one of those cheap places which matches my hair colour. My hair is about the same lengh. Smooth it up into a pony with some gel and then spray it until it sets like glue and then put the pony tail over and twist so its in a longish bun. Don't make it into a ballet bun. Don't forget to put a hair net over it so there are no bits sticking out. Looks much more professional than just a twist. I have seen a lot of these come down and you look like a rooster with a bad hair day :-) - mummsie

Hi Silvane and welcome! My hair is about as long as yours, and I have fringe cut bangs. For competitions I slick back the sides completely, to behind my ears. I fluff the back up and spray it so that it stays in place. Then I comb the bangs off to the side and spray them pretty severely so they stay in place. It's worked well for me so far. It would be nice to have longer hair so that I could get a few different looks but my hair won't cooperate unfortunately.

Good luck at your competition!
