Question about non-dancing partners

I wasn't aware one could meet members of the opposite sex any other way . . .

And so that would insinuate if you don't dance you have no chance of getting into a relationship (?) There are tons of places in which to meet people outside of dancing. The workplace, for one. Which, if you consider that taking up the majority of one's time from dawn to dusk is a perfect hunting ground. And then of course there are other pastimes (ougtside of dancing) such as the gym (another easy place - clock somebody you like and go over and ask if you could partner up for a set or two). A man's best friend is indeed his matchmaker - Dog walking. A really good male friend of mine I met at a busstop. He was standing there suited and booted, we looked at each other and (in true English style) commented about the weather. We got on the bus, sat together and then talked football. Years later we're still good friends. I met one yummy guy whilst floating around in the Dead Sea in Israel. I sat up and there he was sitting on the stones watching me. Just us, the Qumran mountains and the Dead Sea. So yep, there are tons of places - but sure, if you hammer out the dancing until there isn't much else to do in your social hours - the possibility of meeting a partner is of course endless:ladiesma:

So, is the original poster (Colometa) going to chime is on the opinions solicited and given?

Or, have we, DF'ers just been baited into churning this thread?

Ha, ha, ha - my usual stance to think like an MI6 agent I "suspect" some sort of covert survey was being carried out here - and - from one of us. Under a different guise - peut-etre?;)

Aaaaahh - but the journey is so much better than the actual destination, no?:car:

This I think reflects my Window Shopping Hypothesis:

The analogic question is whether its better to be outside the sweet-shop with sixpence in your pocket knowing that you can buy anything you want
OR to go inside and buy something and forego the possibilty of all the other sweeties you might have bought.

dancing tango is probably like having a little taste of all the sweeties that you like....

he should not be asking your g/f when it's obvious that you are dancing with her. Such a behaviour will be disrespectful in my opinion.

umm, how does your partner respond? I guess it might be flattering, and worth a laugh or acknowledgement but it remains her choice who to dance with. I haven't seen many people break off in the middle of a dance to change partners [outside a birthday dance....] If that happened to me, I'd want to talk to my partner about how it makes me feel/how they would feel if it happened to them. T.

I'm with Tricia. Rotating among partners at a social is one thing, but breaking off in the middle of a dance is over the line (outside of a b-day dance as mentioned).

Weighing in quite late, I just saw this thread for the first time, but can relate to it in a different way. I looked to see if you've responded to any of the opinions shared and didn't see you again, but I could've missed you. By now, Colometa, you and the b'friend may no longer be together, but maybe you have heard enough from those of us in the tango conmmunity worldwide to have alleviated your concerns. Hope you join us, or have joined us. Having read through many of the posts, much wisdom shared there.

In your post, you don't mention how long you and he had been together, but as many stated, your b'friend's tango passion is not going to be a phase. We will do this 'til we drop dead because it is elegant but passionate. It will never go out of style.

Personally, I have been happily single and am free of tango jealousy for now, although I can't say it will never happen to me. We don't know how we will handle a situation until we are in it.

After being in many relationships with non dancers, I have promised myself I wont become exclusive with anyone unless I can share my love for dance with that person.

However, when I go dancing, it is not to find a partner, it is to dance. Friendships and whatever may come of that are icing, not the objective. I can only speak for myself, but most people are very respectful and non imposing. From what I've observed, the women are not looking to swoop in on the men, if it is any reassurance to you.

Am interested to know how things turned out.

similar experience

I would like to add my story as it is in the same theme...

I danced tango and i love the dance so much and so does my ( now ex) bf...he is actually addicted to tango.

and we split up because of my jealousy which i dont regret because i dont want my man to touch other woman . And you know how close Tango could be.....no, its not just a dance, you can read all postings in this forum about the connection, sharing energy , sould etc etc blah blah. I dont want my man to share that with other woman. And this is different to each guy, but my guy is VERY friendly and he is a very accomplished dancer. Thus many queueing him and also they are not only dancing but make friends also. That's annoying when your man make friend with female and end up touching them as well.......and he always does everything in close embrace and also he can do those advanced move which can be very...... provocative.

As for me I want to dance Tango and I dont mind to dance with my SO only. But he wants to dance with whoever he wants to dance with. Its not acceptable for me so we splitted up.

The stupid thing is now I need to avoid my Tango community on a certain day when i know he would come. I just dont wanna see him dancing with other woman. But I still dance tango for the sake of i love the dance itself, and being single of course i'm free to feel whatever i want to feel on the dance floor. But I seriously had problem to make connection with a leader when i was still in a relationship and i refuse close embrace because i feel guilty about making connection with other man.

I've been doing some research on Tango and relatioship, surprisingly Tango and jealousy are stated to be happen quite alot but a very few discussion about it.

This is not about im not trusting him. I'm not good with sharing my man with other woman. I always think when I'm in a commited relationship then my personal space is his and his is mine.

I dont know what to ask for replies....but maybe I would like to know what other couples perspective about having their SO dancing AT with others and what's their arrangement ( if any) or anything relevant :)
