so i was sitting home last night loathing the fact that i couldn't dance because of a cold (i wanted to but hubby said it'd make things worse), and while WALKING, not running, quickstepping or anything, across the kitchen, i whacked one of my left toes on the foot of a chair! it hurt so bad and i'm limping this morning:mad:
 
I'll bet stubbing your toe took your mind off of your cold!! :raisebro:

Actually when I'm sick I feel better after exercising. It raises the body temperature and somehow I start to feel better. Of course, if it's the flu, stay put.

i feel that way too. but hubby said it's bad for respiratory infection and i listened. now i'm thinking maybe i should have gone to the gym and would have avoided the accident...

the toe starts swelling late this morning, hours after the injury. don't know what's going on
 
Put ice on your toe, and I don't mean maybe!!! I did the same thing as you. It's been a couple weeks now, and my toe is black lol. It's not very pretty. But it doesn't hurt though. So, I think I just reamed it good lol. Bruises take a while to recover lol. But ice will help with the bruising. I know, because my toe could have been worse if I didn't put ice on it!
 
I heard years ago (from a former ballroom dancer) that it's not uncommon for us to walk into things / trip over low objects since we've been trained NOT to look at our feet. "Floorcraft" is another matter, apparently. Ouch....

That's always been my excuse.
 
yep..just yesterday we rammed into a wall...and it was stucco...we were in a much smaller space than we usually work it...but we were ,of course, only thinking about our connection and pushing from the standing leg....well, we pushed my elbow right into the wall...then we were so busy evaluating what we did wrong that we didn't realize til half an hour later that I was bleeding all over the place...dancers have different priorities while moving...and most certainly one of them is to never look down...and even when I am not dancing or practicing if I am vertical...and sometimes even when I'm not, I am always thinking center and posture...so if there is something below eye level I am going to miss it...but after I hurt myself, I would like to hope I would be able to recover my balance quickly while adhereing to the basic priciples...in theory(wink)
 
lol- I am guilty of lacking depth perception and ramming my shoulders into the corners of walls. I am also guilty of falling in the shower while not even taking a shower (changing the shampoo) and taking a chunk of skin out of my hand, hitting my back on the marble ledge, and scraping my arm. It didn't really hurt, but it looked gross. I've also fallen down stairs. I stub my toes all the time. As you can see I'm very accident prone.
 
OMG it's so good to hear that other people are as unintentionally self-injurious as I am!

When DH and I were first dating, his mom apparently was very concerned that I was self-injuring in some way, because I'd go over to their house COVERED in cuts and scrapes and bruises and... And when asked I'd just say I didn't know how they got there.

What she didn't recognize was the fact that I ran after 4 little kids 10hrs/day, 5 days/wk, and then worked on a horse farm for the other 2 days. I literally didn't know how I'd injured myself, and usually didn't realize when it happend until I got home and some part of me would sting when I took a shower. I mean...it's a farm...with big critters and machinery and sharp places and scratchy things! If I had to be careful not to get hurt I'd neve have gotten anything done.

Never mind the fact that self-injury doesn't tend to take the form of random scrapes and cuts from the knees and elbows down! Although my mom was worried that DH was abusive, b/c of the bruises (on my shins and elbows?!). LOL...good times.

Coincidentally, that's also when I was got accused of being anorexic by my FIL (are you one of those girls who doesn't eat, or just pukes everything back up?). I've never eaten so much in my life as I did that summer--I could out-eat my teenage brother and DH.

Back to the topic at hand, though...I'm sorry to hear about your toe and the cold. Jamming feet into things is SOOO painful. BTDT
 
i iced it periodically throughout the day and it seems to have helped

it makes me feel so much better knowing that i'm not the only one incurring these injuries onto myself, although i was this way before i took up dancigng and i never really concentrate on center and posture when i walk even now...and i don't work with machines... some of the accidents i had were so weird and tragic that i'm ashamed to describe here. oh well, i still survived.
 
yep...and if you bruise easily (which I do)you are really in trouble...thank goodness I am usually sporting a dark tan

Haha! Sorry, I'm sure that hurt, but you made it sound funny lol. :p

My sister fell in the tub once. She stood up I guess trying to hold onto the rail, and when she fell she hurt her chin. She had to get stitches, so be careful!
