Yes, shuffle is (also?) "American style". Turns out there are different ways to play it, and has has been used in at least several different genres of music, including Country Western.
It amounts to a slow swing.

I've been working on a new playlist for this week and have discovered that on some days the songs I think should work don't and the songs I think shouldn't work -- do. So if I were to make a list today, I'd change some of the previous selections I'd add almost the entire Quadro Nuevo CD Tango Bitter Sweet. Also, I came across a couple bellydance songs -- Naga and Kama by Solace that are slow and sensual... And Gustavo Santaolalla's Sendera, La Partida and De Usuahia a la Quiaca go very well together.
