received a nice compliment

i received a nice complement this past weekend and just wanted to share and get some insite...

my GF and i went out dancing this weekend. we weren't in the mood for "studio" dancing so we searched around for a bar with live music and a nice band (not loud, not rock, a nice "adult" band). we can across a nice quiet place with a small 10x10 dance floor and a great 3 person band that really loved music. they played from the heart and didn't realize that they were playing rumbas, foxtrots, swings, etc. they just played because they loved the music.

needless to say we had a great time! it also doesn't hurt that it was a small crowd so we could make the most of the 10x10 floor. the band ended up playing an extended set just so we could dance a little more, that was nice.

at the end of the night i went to the band to thank them for the great music and find out where else they played so i could find them again sometime. much to my suprise the band thanked me for just dancing to their music. they kept playing because they loved watching us dance to the music they were making...

the lead singer told me... "it was great watching you dance to our music tonight. it was so nice to see that someone finally gets it! we could actually see our music in your dancing!" :D

I'll second that. Quite a compliment. I have had it once before, and now the same band is playing this Tuesday night, so guess where I'll be. :)

can you be more specific please. Are you talking inches, feet or metres??

Given dTas's listed location (in the U.S.) I'd assumed feet... but your quite right BTM, it could be anything!

sorry... i forgot i had an international audience...

i ment 10 x 10 feet = 3.05 x 3.05 meters

Very cool! I used to play in college jazz band (trumpet) and it was nice the few times people would dance. It made me as a musician feel very classy.

Okay just got a compliment now! Guy comes up to the circulation desk and says, by the way you are a great dancer. I say thanks and ask hime where he saw me and said commonground and that I danced 4/5 songs with his gf. I say I hope you don't mind and he said, "not at all". She had a great time.

Then Sunday night my rueda group is practicing and I'm bored so I break out into some spontaneous shines in the gym. A person working out in the gym upstairs comes down and starts chatting me up, asking if I teach as I looked like one in the group.

I guess what sets me apart, quite a few times, is the way I dance. With spirit, with gusto, with the music.... :D

My friend and I have experienced this on several occasions...

In the summer time we spend weekends at a lake where they have several live bands. It's not really intended as a dance, but of course we can't help ourselves. We've danced to Oldies bands, pop bands, even Zydeco (cajun) bands. The bands tell us they love it when we dance, and they remember who we are even months down the road. The crowd cheers us on too... it's really a blast.

I think the energy is contagious, from the band, to the dancers, to the crowd...it's fun for everyone!

Congrats! I can't think of a better compliment that a musician could give a dancer!

I remember one time joining a group of friends at a restaurant with a small dance area and a really cool Latin jazz band playing. For some strange reason, nobody at the restaurant was dancing. After awhile, one of my friends (who happened to be from my dance class) got really fidgety and dragged me onto the dance floor for a couple of songs. Actually, she didn't have to "drag" me since neither one of us has a problem dancing even if we're the only couple on the floor. When we finally left the dance floor at the end of a particularly good song, the lead singer said into the microphone, "And give a round of applause for our dancers" plus saying something about how musicians like to see people dancing to their music. A few strangers at the restaurant gave us compliments afterwards, too, which was nice.

Wow... that's a cool compliment. Gotta remember that one.

A woman I danced with commented to me (Monday night): "I really liked dancing with you, because you make the woman look GOOD." :)

Don't ya LOVE that when it happens?

I got a similar compliment from a swig dancer once, her saying, "You really know how to show a lady off" :D

How about this...

"Even though I was tired, I felt like I haven't seen you and some of my other friends in so long :) It was great to see you again and to dance with you :) :) :)

Also I have noticed how popular you are with the ladies these days. I enjoyed dancing with you and also watching you dance too. These ladies all had such wonderful smiles on their faces when they were with you :)

You really have a special way with people.. so kind and gentle... "

And when I said:

"I have a wonderful time dancing with lovely people who are willing to share a song or two with me. It takes two to really enjoy the dance and I am fortunate to have great dancing friends, like you."

"it is us who are truly lucky to have you to share your time and dance with us. For me, I remember you taking me by the hand and showing me time after time, how to dance Salsa... if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have started when I did.

What a great gift to give someone and you continue to do so for others too :)

We are so lucky to have you in our lives"

She is not an advanced salsa dancer, but a wonderful tanguera, AT lady. This is the way I like to dance: gently with subtlety. There is no need to do anything fancy, with the basic and a couple turns sufficing. For all you beginners out there the rewards from doing this can be as great as knowing a million and one moves. Just an FYI.
