Rekindling "an affair"

Is there anything you haven't done in a while, which you used to do a lot, restarted and thought what took you so long to restart?

This weekend, I rekindled my affair with swimming. :D I used to swim a lot as a child, to a high standard. Then I left home, my life and surrounds all changed (naturally), the hair on my legs was growing quicker and quicker   etc etc. The end result was I hadn't swam in zillion of years! Then this weekend, I thought: enough's enough! There is a swimming pool about 5 mins walk away from me and there was no valid reason why I shouldn't be using it other than "lack of time". Went to the pool twice this weekend   and am so glad that I did!

The first time, yesterday was a bit of shock for a number of reasons. I remembered how to swim  but didn't quite have the rhythm/breathing technique. Also, I could only do a lap at a time and as for diving in  okay, first time wasn't exactly a bellyflop but I did catch my chest, which stung  ) rather than entering the water hands, arms, head, shouders etc. But, I persisted. Today, was back again and it was so much better! I still ache from yesterday BUT my technique was almost there, I was able to hold my breathe much longer, swimming underwater and each time, getting a foot or two closer to completing a length of the pool underwater (the pool is a decent size but not huge/Olympic size, thank goodness  )

A lot of things MM!! One is poetry. I wrote a lot of poetry when young, and not only the couple things that I have written and posted on df, but a wide variety of styles... Just getting back into this.

Another is arts and crafts stuff. I remember this really neat card thing that you open up and is like a photo album, but not folded the a plain vanilla way. Kind of like origami...still haven't done anything like it yet...but, I'm working up to it...

Uh...... DANCE!!!!! I'm returning to dance after an almost 10 year hiatus. I suppose I do know why I stopped and why it took me this long to return (circumstances...) but I'm so glad I came back! :D

I too just like motardmom came back to dancing from a long time away. 16 years to be exact.

I really wish I hadn't given it up in the first place but when I first started working there was no way I would have been able to keep up with classes. I look at it this way. If I had kept going with it, I probably would never have found my present studio and have the wonderful friendships that I have developed over the last 18 months.

It all works out for the best in the end. :D

I also am thinking about going back to netball as I am only dancing 1-2 nights per week now. Used to play "A" grade club netball when I was at school, but again when I started working, I had to give it up for financial reasons. Might actually have a look around the clubs this week and start in the new year, if I can afford it.

Also dance. Though not the same kind of dancing. I used to love going to night clubs "for a bop" as I used to call it. No formal dancing, just the usual freestyle stuff (I didn't know any other way of dancing then). But when I went out for a night of dancing, it was always purely about dancing. I wasn't interested in socialising or meeting people; I only wanted to dance and would dance non-stop. Then I had a long period of not dancing and missing it. It's great to be dancing again.

the Dance Forums!!!

I haven't been able to play here all semester... and while I'm not exactly "back" it's nice to read up a little on everything I've been missing. The place looking nice and I've missed so much!

Same for me. It's been so busy at work, I rarely have time to visit, but it's nice when I do! I'm going to try to post more.

Yes, I have rekindled an affair with my soul, life force, and enthusiam through dancing. Other things are getting rekindled as well. Wow, this New Year has brought in a breath of fresh air.

I used to cook a lot, you know, cut the recipes out of magazines and the newspaper and try them out. And make a big mess in the kitchen! I rarely do that anymore, don't have the time after working all day and then getting a run in. Sometimes on a cold Sunday afternoon (and we have a lot of those coming in the next couple of months), I will try something new and it is really fun!

Pascion,

I swim a lot (training for the tri's), and I couldn't believe how quickly it came back to me.

Diving, on the other hand... ker...plunk. Who decided that we aren't supposed to splash when we dive? crazy!

Me too. what a total blast. Haven't done it in a while, though. Not since the year of the soup. (the year I taught myself how to make mean homemade soup. Mmm. 8) )

And how do you make it? I want to add soups to my daily diet this year.
