Removing Rhinestones

Curious. How do you dispose the used acetone?

Depending on your circumstance, any of the following methods will do the job:
1.Take to a garage and dump it in a used oil disposal container;
2.Let it evaporate;
3.Bury it in your yard; soil microorganisms love to reduce it to dihydroxyacetone (i.e., unlike the crude oil in Gulf of Mexico, acetone is easily biodegradable), which is the same as fake tanning agent;
4. Use it as a charcoal burner fluid

Janathome - I will try to do some close up before and after pictures to show my fellow DFer my progress. :) I dont expect the overall look of the gown to be too different, because, as i said before, it is only the first "generation" you could say, of stoning i did on that dress. But the improvements are still necessary because 1- i will still be using this gown for a bit 2 - for when i do sell it.

contracheck - thank you for all the helpful tips! i will be sure to let you know how it turns out

Doing this right now, because I need to get a zipper replaced on a dress and the stones would be in the way of the sewing machine. Pure acetone + q-tip + fingers. The glue has left some slightly yellowed spots behind on the fabric, but that's fine because I'll just glue them back on once the zipper is fixed. It is a little glue-gunky though.

A hot-fix wand is good for melting off unwanted glue residue. Just keep going over the area and wiping it off on some scrap fabric.

I think there is yet another thread on the stonework and removal. Although, dip a Q-tip or some cotton in Finger Nail Polish Remover, dap the rhinestone "back" from the inside of your costume. Pull the stone off with tweesers? Worked for, beware, you'll need to soak or wash your costume due to the fume from the nail polish remover.
Also, this works on GEM TAC glue - I don't know about other glues. Good luck.

The "q-tip in acetone" worked for me when I was pulling off cheap plastic stones to replace them with ABs. I worked in a small area at at time, used a thumbnail to get under the stone, and when I was finished for the night, I rinsed out the acetone in the kitchen sink and let the costume air overnight. No discoloration, no issues at all. Good luck!
