Resoling sneakers for lindy

I need new dance sneakers for lindy since my old ones do not comfortly accomodate the orthotics that I need - and also, the "two soles"-solution is not good for people like me who needs lots of support for the arch. Generally, I am advised to choose shoes that are pretty rigid sideways - if you grab the heel and the toe and twist, they should not be easily twisted.

I am thinking of bying sneakers in the ortopedic's shop and have them resoled. Ballroom people want suede under their shoes. My black lindy flats have leather soles, and I imagine that is better for slides etc. - although I don't do slides so often, I sure want shoes that permit it. Has anyone resoled sneakers with leather soles?

Suede isn't as slick as hard leather, but it is slick. Take your new shoes to a cobbler and have them put suede on the bottom wear them dancing, wear them outside a little a touch of water on occasion (when not dancing) will help too...it will slick up the suede making for better slides.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I have used 'Duck Tape' -

- on non-dance shoes, and have found I can slide easily. If I wear the shoes with tape outside, the tape soon wears away and becomes rough, but if kept purely for dancing, this might give a long-term answer.

this is what a friend of mine does.. She changes the tape every time she goes dancing.. just a few little peices and it works wonders and no sticky.. you just have to pay attention.. it can ruin a floor if you do not pay attention.....
