Salsa article

A local newspaper wrote an article on a salsa spot that I really like and did a horrible job and focused the attention on herself and not what a great place the venue is.

http://www.azcentral.com/ent/music/articles/0120barfly20.html

In the print version she lists her email address, here her phone number...
If you agree with me and want to email her to tell her she should have focused more on the venue and less on herself, its [email protected]. Please be considerate in your choice of words! :P

Seemed fair and balanced to me. What was so objectable? She obviously was not exposed to the salsa world that much and only had her own opinion to rely on. The fact that she said people were friendly and the band is good should bring in oogles of hot chicks and studmuffings to the club. Why would you complain?

Well, she did talk about the venue...and what she said about it was nice, although what's with that opening? Anyway, the place got exposure and she got paid. Win/win? :)

I just read the article and I have to agree with brujo and randomysh.....the article was actually a pretty good read and DID mention the good points about the club: music, people, atmosphere - everything was covered,......even giving a brief history and the future plans they have for it.

The introduction I believe was written for effect as well as to introduce herself (the writer) as well as her experiences as a writer doing features.

The reason you may have thought she was talking about herself was because of the writing style she employed salsaoone - she wrote in the first person. Its a techique some writers use for effect.

I believe she used this technique because she wanted her readers to see what she saw and experienced through HER eyes rather than telling the story as an editorial or a non-personal story. I also believe that in doing so she created a very real and very beleivable picture of what that night of salsa was like for her. Believe it or not alot of beginners would like to have their first time salsa experiences to start off that well especially when its among a group of persons who make them feel welcome.

You can be sure that the Club will be remembered for that welcoming experience. :)

As someone who doesn't know this club, I'd say the article sounds positive enough to make me want to try it out if I ever find myself in your neck of the woods. It says all the right things -- that it's a classy venue and not sleezy; it's friendly; and dancers of all skill levels and ethnic/cultural backgrounds are welcome. Yes the writer's style is very personal and perhaps a bit too much of "me me me", but at least it's not negative and gives an impression that it's a first-hand account by someone who actually spent a night at this place rather than a marketing write-up paid for by the club.

The “I form” is the writers choice. But at least you know the article is made by a non dancer.
Besides there is a fact box to the left.

Seems like a nice club, and I surely would want to visit.

It’s hard to write with salsa passion, without have the fever.
Her only problem with the place was getting people to pose for pictures.

Salsaonone,

I normally go to the Phoenix area 3-5 times a year. I have so far only been to Mythos but that article makes me want to check out Club Tropicana also!.

It sounds like a night club with nice people and room for beginers and the advanced dancers.

:)

Welcome to DF, Westergreen!

And Salsaonone, regardless of any of our opinions... thank you for letting us know about the article!
