Salsa Clothes

Hey guys, what do you usually wear when you go to salsa? For me, I have professional brownish pants and a colored and flowered hawaiian shirt. How about you? What is best for salsa?
There are like a zillion threads on this subjext already. We'd hate to have to start all over again. Just a moment and I'll go dig them up.

Hey Chook! You really have gotten into this really intensely! :) I find it funny 'cause you want to know anything there is to know out there... Keep on!

Assuming you mean social dancing... I would worry mostly about the shoes. They must be comfortable and appropriate to the surface you're going to dance on. If it's a nice floor - good dancing shoes are Ok. If you're going to have to walk all over out on the streets to get to the club or if it's an outdoor or rough floor venue then you wouldn't want to ruin good ($) dancing shoes.

For clothing I would wear whatever you like to wear in your own style as long as it's comfortable for you to do whatever moves you do and can handle however much you'll sweat.

There are other considerations in other posts but this is a start. :)

I like Hawaiian shirts on men, they just look kind of cool and comfortable, colourful and exotic.

Ideal for Salsa!

Rosa :)

Normally if I wear dark pants, I wear a white shirt and vice-versa. White shirts hide the sweat and so does the black. I usually avoid dressing up as "Men in Black" when I go dancing so that I don't become invisible when I dance in the dark corner of the floor. I like Hawaiian shirts and Guayaberas.

Now where was that thread on guayaberas? :?

It's in one of the links you posted above, on page 8, toward the bottom.. this should get you there:

coco, as an update on this, I've not bought any guayaberas. They are comfortable but I really want something that is cut a little slimmer through the waist. We were saying how it looks good on people of all sizes, and this must be because of a more full cut, a more straight line down from the shoulders to the waist. Well, my upper body is more V-shaped (than U-shaped?) so I want something that will emphasize this!

I must say this though--I love all the pockets on the guayaberas... quite handy for keeping stuff in! :D

I finally loooked up guayaberas! And I just find that they are like long sleeved shirts.... :? Right now I'm wearing a top that I love and that is great for dancing in...I think I'll pass on the guayaberas...

I do have quite a few hawaiian shirts that I use. I also have some other combinations. For instance, black slacks with a long sleeved rayon...I think...light brown patterned shirt. I let the shirt hang out. Then I wear a light gold plated flat chain.

As for footwear....it usually is bare foot or sandals/slippers/flip-flops  8)

they are much more frequently short-sleeved.
oh. Even then...I guess I need to figure out what makes them so special as the pics I saw did not make them seem to be so.

they are traditional and so the sentimental favorite. but in terms of concrete 'why's,' they are very lightweight and generously cut to allow ease of movement.

not for everybody of course - in fact your gringo salsero can look a little presumptuous, but only a little, because while they are 'traditional' they are not terribly distinctive - but many of us love them.

Thanks for the explanation. As I have a slim body type I find that most clothes are very spacious as they are made for the huge people around here. I think I could carry it off though, as some people have mistaken me for hispanic/latino etc before...hmmm.. I wear a mixture of clothes...some are Indian looking, some are African, Hawaiaan...mixing and matching according to my mood.

Then you'd probably look better in one of those synthetic-fiber body-hugging shirts that emphasize the chest. Love those on guys! :raisebro:
