Salsa in Amsterdam

Hello everybody!

I've lurked on this board for a couple of months, but not recently as I'm now a *roaming* salsero. Originally from Canada, I had my first taste of salsa in Panama, and then took a few classes in Montreal (Canada). Now I find myself in Amsterdam, and I was hoping some of the members here would be able to recommend a school to me?

My criteria:

1. English or bilingual instruction (my dutch is pretty basic... no pun intended :) )
2. Salsa on 1 (LA would be my first choice)
3. Fun atmosphere

That's it!

Always enjoy following the threads here, keep up the good work.

Can't help you out regarding any recommendations Jay, but did want to welcome you to the ranks of the DF! :D

Hi RoamingSalsero and welcome to DF!

One school you might like to try is http://www.dosbailadores.nl/

I know that both Leo and Monique who set up Dos Bailadores speak english very well.

May I make a suggestion? Try the classes in Dutch  That way, you really have to watch the teacher in order to follow and your brain may not question as much

Hallo RoamingSalsero, leuk dat je naar Nederland komt!

Never been to Amsterdam to salsa, so can't tell you anything specific about the schools there, but can give you a link dealing with the amsterdam salsa scene (in english):
Guide to salsa dancing in amsterdam

Should be enough info to get you started. If you have anymore questions, ask away, or if you need a quick translation of a website, let me know.

Patrick Mussendijk came to our Midwinter Salsa Ball in Edinburgh as a guest teacher earlier this year and was very well received. His school is listed in the link Tasek provided, under "Lessons".

Welcome, RoamingSalsero!
You should have no problem finding decent salsa lessons over there as Amsterdam is an international city and they LOVE to dance! The Dutch speak the BEST English I have ever heard with a lot of them better than people from my native California! Good luck!

Welcome RoamingSalsero

I have been taking some lessons from Morry. He is a brilliant instructor. Very logical and skilled, also in educational theory and practice. We have been so fortunate to get him to Denmark on some occasions, and I have already signed up for his next workshop. He got a large network of schools around Amsterdam. We have been talking about driving 1000km to his workshops and after parties.

Thank you very much!

I have to say that you folks have just delivered the warmest welcome I've ever experienced on the internet (and I've been online for a long time!).

Thanks!

I've been looking over the Guide, and I'll give Patrick Mussendijk a call based on MacMotos suggestion.

You're right Pacion, the language isn't really a big deal for dance lessons! I've had 'em in Spanish and French as well - two kinds of lessons at once :)

Best regards,

Jay

If your roaming takes you across to Scotland (we are next door neighbours after all), be sure to let me know! :D

 She is flirting again!

Roamingsalsero, not sure where he is based, but I gather that Orville Small (salsation.ca) is in Holland for a couple of months? Might be interesting for you to see if he is in Amsterdam as I have heard good things about him.

Patrick Mussendijk is lovely  :D

But in case you can make it to Antwerp (1.5 hr drive from Eindhoven) I'd be happy to give you a tour :D

Anyway, have a good time here!!
