Hello,

I was checking the event that were happening in March and I noticed the Calle Ocho event happening in March 13.

Im kinda interested in going, but I want to know if there is salsa there.
And I mean like a pure salsa floor. Not no bachate + merengue + reggeton intermixed. I heard its huge (23 blocks i think), so Im hoping they have a space set aside for salsa only.

NE1 know???

aragonh,

Don't worry, this is mostly salsa, yes, on 23 blocks or so. At least it was mostly salsa when I went in 1993 and 1995. Check the program, they should have a web site. You will have so much salsa that you will have to choose one stage or a few stages close to each other because you cannot see all bands, it is impossible. You can hardly walk in this place, forget about dancing unless you want to stay all the way in the back.

In 1993 (my first festival of this type) I saw Frankie Ruiz, Celia Cruz and Andy Montañez all on the same stage (of 23) plus some other bands. There were many more salsa bands playing at other stages, like El Gran Combo, Tito Rojas, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Willy Chirino etc. You have to make your schedule in advance and do not pick stages that are too far apart because you will never make it, walking speed is at snale pace there. You can move a little faster by taking the backway behind the stages.

It is a great experience, especially the first time you go.

Have fun if you decide to go!
