I got salsa tommorow (Wednesday) and well I love salsa but since that incident in Sydney i am scared to go out anymore... yeah i live in Perth its far away but i dont know maybe i will have to stop dancing salsa, but i dont want to do that i love it. Im 16 and im ummm of other nationality. Im so disgusted watching it on the news. I dont know....

what do you guys think of racism? i dont know why people have to be racist
i really dont want to stop salsa but... if this stuff will happen in Perth then i guess i will have to stop

Racism SUCK!!
Peace for all

Well, I don't know what "incident" you're talking about, but you're right: racism sucks.

In the areas I go dancing, the Salsa community is a complete social melting pot. People from all the communities in Birmingham get together and have a great time - at the same time as there were riots between the black and asian communities only a mile or so away, members of both communities were having a good time together dancing Salsa.

If you give up Salsa because of a few idiots, they have won. Obviously don't walk through a riot to get to Salsa, but if that does not stop you, metaphorically stick two fingers up to the racist trouble makers and show that we can all get on well and have fun together!

I too do not know of the incident to which you are referring , but I will say this...each of us has the ability by our actions to make a situation more peaceful or more violent...and while this is sometimes dangerous, we have to ask what we are here for....If you can be a source of forgiveness and love and reconciliation and calm, then what good will that be if you isolate yourself....you cant protect yourself forever, if you never work for peace....find a way...live your life....and love everboday to the best of your ability...and I KNOW that seems trite and too nice but it works....even though it is very hard and very painful at times

The incident in question...

If you can get to your salsa venue safely, then there's no reason for you to stop. I'd suggest going with friends for the sake of your personal safety when going to or from the club, but once you're there, I'm sure you'll be okay.

There hasn't been anything in Perth, has there? Only Sydney?

Well so far i dont think there is any because its not in the news and i havent been out since i got back from Tasmania which is on Monday. I dont know what happen i was in Sydney during 30th of November for a week and people was so nice i love it,i was also thinking of living there!. then i went to Tasmania and i was shock to see this in TV i thought this would never happen in Sydney.

Just read the news. Ugly. :???:
I don't think there will be a problem going to salsa if you're with a friend and use safe means of transport. If you hide in your homes, it will mean they have achieved their goal. Don't give them the satisfaction of having scared you away from your favourite things. Be careful, but go to dance. :)

This is a truly saddening and hateful incident, and it wasn't just one isolated case. Racism is rearing its ugly head in all parts of the world and, as ignorance breeds ignorance, it is unfortunately spreading. By no means should you stop dacnign because of it (or sacrifice anything else for that matter) but be careful!

Well i just got back from dancing and i had fun. Im safe nothing happen and the people in my class didnt treat me diferently :D its so good to dance with them again! maybe dancers are just cool people they are nice and everything ;) Anyway just saying that im safe :) :)

megaproto, glad to hear that you had a fun night! As someone said, keep doing what you are doing, otherwise the "racists" would have won by scaring you and making you feel as if you are a prisoner in your own home.

London has seen its share of racist attacks and riots. Thankfully, it has been sometime since there have been any riots, althought the same can't be said for other cities. It is always shocking and frightening when it happens, irrespective of the reason.

Keep living your life megapronto, but if you feel like you standout, don't take unnecessary risks and listen to your intuition.
