Saturday evening attire when you compete that day

Hi everyone,

I am new to comps and was wondering what you do when you compete a few heats Saturday afternoon and want to stay to watch all the saturday night dancing and show. Do you just stay in the ballroom in the dress you competed in for the rest of the evening? I am only competeing in latin if it makes any difference.

Definetly not in the dress you just danced in. If you have a room in the same hotel you might want to go shower and change. If not then bring some clothes with you and change in the changing room.

I'd imagine you spent a lot of money on your dress and shouldn't really sit in it all night.
 
From what I have seen, most people usually change back into regular clothes. Oh and saturday nights are usually fairly dressy. I've seen people come in long dresses and even a few in jeans, but most common on a saturday night at the comps I've been to is either a nice day dress, a more night-time going out type dress(within reason of course!), and a cocktail dress. Of course this varies from comp to comp. I am sure that no one would bat an eyelash should you choose to wear your comp dress, though. They might think you are part of the show. lol! IMO, though, to be comfortable there and to blend in, I would definitely change....
 
saturday evening is usually dressy...I have a black longer skirt and I have a few nice silk haltars that don't wrinkle and are easily tossed in a small bag...I will wear my latin heels with it....I get out of my costumes the instant I am done as a matter of care for the costume

Then that makes me think of one more question, if you are not staying at the hotel that night and can't go up to shower but you can change clothes somewhere, do you just keep your hair and makeup like it was for the competition? If you happen to be staying at the hotel, then do you go take all the makeup off and take hair down and back to normal (because you washed it) or do you go up and shower but leave hair and makeup alone. Sorry to be so specific, but I am so curious about this as I have been to comps (as a spectator) and wish I would have paid attention to this part!
 
if I have a room...I take all of that crap off...if I don't, I bring a wash rag and wash as much funk off as I can and take off the eylashes...otherwise I leave the hair...too much of a pain without a room
 
I also like to take off the makeup as soon as possible, but if I don't have a room, I just leave it on, as people realize that you have just danced (not that you prefer to wear tons of make up :) )
 
You will notice a definite look to what women wear at night: the dress, or pants and top are usually pretty trendy and tend to show off a dancer body. Usually worn with high heels too. But it's not competitive, it's also OK just to dress comfortably if your feet are hurting after a lot of dancing. Even if you can't take all the makeup off because you don't have your own room, you can wipe off the weirdest part.
 
Ditto most of the above. Try to find something comfy that still looks nice (skirt or slacks and some kind of practicewear-esque top usually do me nicely).

I leave the hair if it's complicated or stoned, if not I'll take it down, shake it out, and put it back in a loose ponytail (it's a bit easier on the hair and scalp to not be pulled so tight for so long!).

As for makeup, I take most it off in the bathroom and replace it with some more normal evening makeup.

And remember, people at ballroom comps have pretty much seen it all, so just make sure you're relaxed and have a good time. :)
 
Agree with other posters, leave the hair in (with that much hairspray in it, it's going to look really interesting when it comes down - and it will stay that way!), and wipe the make up off.
 
If I don't have a room, or don't have time to fully change, I would leave hair and make up as is and put on the clothes I came in. If I have more time, I would also remove (and partially replace, since it never comes off all the way on the first try, so it would look weird if I just wiped it off) the makeup. I would undo the hair only if I have enough time to take a shower.
 
The lashes are one part of the makeup I tend to leave on as long as possible, as I've yet to find a way to get them off without destroying the eyes compeletely. But I'll try to get the blush and the more extreme parts of the eye stuff off.
 
Sure is great to be a guy (and one who doesn't mess with tanner/bronzer/etc). Take off costume, throw on a pair of slacks and a dress shirt, maybe some nice cufflinks, and done with it.

If we're having formal dinner later that night, which we often are, slacks will be pants from suit I'm wearing that night. Will leave off tie and jacket until dinner though, unless ballroom is particularly chilly. Generally the tie and jacket are left out in the truck, as changing rooms are crowded enough as is.
Everyone's advice definitely matches what I've seen though, so all good advice.

hmmm...never had taking off the lashes make much of a diff to the eyemake-up...other than toning it down a bit
