Not tango...but it beats our London Tango Tango hands down!


This video was made in the Antwerp , Belgium Central (Train) Station on the 23rd of March 2009. . . with no warning to the passengers passing through the station,
at 08:00 am a recording of Julie Andrews singing 'Do, Re, Mi' begins to play on the public address system. As the bemused passengers watch in amazement, some 200 dancers begin to appear from the crowd and station entrances.
They created this amazing stunt with just two rehearsals!

The UN and Tango!

It's official - UN says, tango should be preserved for humanity! The BBC's Newshour ran this story:

The United Nations cultural organisation, UNESCO, has declared the Argentine and Uruguayan dance, the tango, part of the world's intangible cultural heritage. Experts meeting in Abu Dhabi agreed that tango's sultry steps and melancholy music should be safeguarded for humanity.

Hiroshi and Kyoko Yamao--world tango champions

Dancers may not be aware that Kyoko and Hiroshi Yamao were not new competitors to the championships in Buenos Aires.

They competed in the V Campeonato Metropolitano (2007) and placed 4th in milonga and 9th in tango salon. They qualified to compete because they had an extended stay in Buenos Aires although the rules require that competitors live in BsAs.

They competed in the V Campeonato Mundial (Aug 2007) and placed 6th in Tango Salon category and 3rd in Stage Tango category. [Their standings in the previous campeonatos can be found on the internet.]

They were familiar to the judges of the Campeonato Mundial, and they study in the school of Carlos Copello. They represented Japan in the Campeonato Mundial. They were being groomed for the title. They are lovely dancers, but they didn’t just show up in August and win the title for their country.

Daniel Naccuchio, who won the world championship in 2008, taught tango for several years in Japan. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Yamaos studied with him in Tokyo.
