Share any simple routines?

Do any of the men or teachers have any simple social routines they could possibly share please? Like bronze? Thanks. PM if you wish.

Hey ccccat, just to help those who might answer your request, any dances/styles specifically that you're looking for?

I'm guessing that by "simple social routine", you mean short repeatable sequences that have minimal travel against line of dance? Maybe kinda like these zig zaggy things for waltz?

-Starting diagonal wall, forward closed change
-1-3 natural (1/4 turn)
-back closed change
-4-6 reverse (1/4 turn)

-1-3 natural (1/4 turn)
-outside change

I avoid routines on the social floor as much as possible because it's so common to be cut off by couples with no sense of floorcraft. Much like shipping, whoever has the ability to alter their route, has the obligation to do so, regardless of what you were planning.

Zig zag pattern down the floor in Am. foxtrot. Start facing DW, one basic with a quarter turn to the left, end backing DC. Backward basic with a quarter turn to the left to end facing DW. Continue as needed, with a rock turn to the left at the corners.

Simple routines for beginners on a social floor are a necessity to help them pick up the dance. We always try to give options to avoid other couples or obstacles on the floor, such as doing an extra forward or back basic in the foxtrot pattern I gave above. Simple, but effective.

I agree, but some students insist on this "crutch" in the beginning.

dh's basic in FT is generally the bronze progressives to zig-zags, maybe a GV then some "get-out-of troubles" in the corner or a promenade with a pivot...(dunno the proper names...)

Full Reverse Turn (start DC, end DW)
Chasse to the Right while doing Inside Turn
Face-to-Face Back-to-Back (2x)
Spin outward while travelling LOD
Chasse to the right while doing Outside Turn
Develope
Chasse to the Left while doing Inside Turn
Develope (against LOD)
Chasse to the Right while doing Outside Turn
Twinkle

If the follower cannot do a develope, abort the develope and skip down to the Twinkle.

Once you've mastered several basic steps, the next order of business is to put these "pieces" together into patterns you develop yourself. In so doing you'll be burning them into your lobes where they'll stay longer and work better. Besides, it's hard to anticipate what will happen on the social floor. In smooth the main thing is to keep things moving around the floor and not be an impediment. Whether you can do extensive in-place moves depends on how heavy is that traffic. Etc.

One problem I have is that I fall into "ruts" -- fixed sequences of just the sort for which you are asking. These get boring fast. Need to constantly stir things up -- re-piece them together.
