Side of bed dictates sex of child?

One bit of personal info: I know that my father used to sleep on the left side of the bed when I was young. This was probably because he got out bed earlier, and the right side of the bed was close to the wall. Also, his desk was at the left side of the bed, and that was where the alarm clock stayed. Two children in the family, both boys, although my mother has told me that she had a miscarriage before I was born and it was (would have been) a girl.

In my family, my mom always slept on the left side of the bed because it was closer to the door. That way if she had to get up to attend to a kid, or if one of us came in during the night, my dad woulnd't be disturbed. Our family had two kids, one girl and one boy.

Of course, I was conceived at a vacation cabin in Northern California and my brother was conceived in a hotel in Jamaica, so who knows who was sleeping where. ;-)

I sleep by the door to the bathroom, because one of the cats gets up in the middle of the night, jumps in the sink, and meows until I get up and turn on the faucet for her. That puts me on the left side of the bed. If we happen to ever have kids, I'll let you know what sex they are.

The side of the bed thing is a complete myth!

Now, the position that the couple has intercourse in when they conceive may influence the sex of the child, this is due to the scientific fact that Y-chromosome sperms swim faster but but are weaker and die off faster than X-chromosomes. But I'm not going to go into details here, read the link I posted above.

I think also the food (acidic/alkaline) you eat may incfluence the sex of the child.

Well...maybe someone can explain how Little Ricky came to be when his parents slept in different beds! *LOL*

well so far it looks as if the "theory" holds... men sleeping on the right side of the bed are more likely to have sons where men sleeping on the left side the possibility of having daughters is higher than when sleeping on the right side.

maybe you can say it this way...
sleeping on the right - 85% chance of sons
sleeping on the left - 50/50

though if you look at it that way then either there are a lot of men sleeping on the left side of the bed to help keep the population of males to females more equal.

I'll vote for men sleeping on the right side to increase the female population....even more.

(One thing that is interesting in census data, and has been noted since the 19th century: Of all children born, the boy-girl percentage is not exactly 50-50. About 105 boys are born for every 100 girls, and from what I recall of my genetics schooling, this is seen pretty consistently in populations all over the world.
oh c'mon, we all know that's because boyz try to do stupid things far more often! lol

There are many [.....] old wives tales related to sex and pregnancy.

Yeah, and how about this one: my mother-in-law told me when I was pregnant that I shouldn't stretch up to get something out of a high cupboard, otherwise the baby would be born with the cord around its neck and be strangled!

I'm glad to say I frequently did, and he wasn't...

Rosa :)
