Smooth Dresses?

Does anyone know of any good places where you can rent or purchase American Smooth Dresses for a reasonable amount? I know of rhythmic rentals, I was wondering if there are any other sites out there that anyone here knows of. Thanks.
 
Well, Laura, I don't really know what I consider reasonable. I know I can't afford the $3000 plus dresses, so renting is an attractive option for me right now. If I found a dress for purchase, obviously it would have be used, for $1000 or under I would consider it depending on the dress of course.

Also, as sort of a side note, what makes a dress for Smooth different than a dress for Standard?
 
These days Standard and Smooth dresses are pretty much interchangable. I've even seen Smooth dancers with floats.

For $1000 you can should be able to find a decent used Smooth dress. Try looking in the classified ads on Ballroomdancers.com . You migh be able to get a decent one custom made for you for that much -- not from any "name" designer though, but from a local costume maker in your area (if there are any). Or you can make one yourself for about $400. Or you can buy a new one made in China on eBay for about $200, but you'll need to put about $200 worth of rhinestones on it yourself.
 
Be careful of smooth dresses with floats, though - if you're doing a lot of open coreography, they can really get in the way.

Also, in a standard dress you can get away with having less detail on most of the front, as it won't show very much when you're dancing.
 
I have a smooth dress I'm looking to sell; if you like black (after all the posts devoted to this very subject, you never know!). It's about a size 6-8. Good for someone no taller than 5'6". PM if interested!
