..........this is one of the most asked question to any couple.

Whether you are the direct recipient, or the asker, what kind of stories have you heard/told...?

Please share, even if the story you've got came from family/friends/coleagues...... .

PS: This thread was inspired by all the recent talks of relationship/marriage/commitment...........

In the language lab at college. There was a study table set up there and, rather than go three flights down and across campus to the student union for a one hour break between language classes (all on the third floor of the Humanities building), we would go there to study and to socialize a bit.

For a long time, I only knew her first name, Elena. Then one day I say her last name, Trujillo, and I remarked that she didn't look Spanish. Through slightly gritted teeth, she said, "That's because I'm Mexican." For some reason she continued to speak with me (until a few years ago -- hey, is all this part of her getting back at me for that remark?)

I was a German major and she a French major. It was a mixed marriage and I did try to make it work. I even gave up telling French jokes.

I met my man originally about 2 years ago at my first big dancing function at the studio we both go to. At the time there were two local studios, but both were run separately and didn't mingle much. I had been at the studio probably 5 months and was told by someone else at our table to watch this guy doing his final bronze presentation because he's really good. I admired his talent and later he asked me for a dance (his practice is to try to ask as many women to dance as possible).

Anyway time went on and a few months later I had developed a close group of friends at the studio and because he was generally a nice guy and great to dance with (one of the few non beginner leads at the time), we started encouraging him to hang around us. He went away with work for 6 months and when he got back he came back to the studio and hung around for coffee and chats with us afterwards. We all became quite good friends.

Beginning of this year the studio decided to do a group routine to Rocky Horror, and him and I were cast as Brad and Janet. I still think it was a bit of a set up at the time, but the instructors insisted it was because our dancing styles and abilities were well suited to each other. Taunting and rumours began that we were seeing each other and after a couple of months of this we decided to just play up to it. Being good friends, it was fun and we actually had some people believe we were together, which kinda shocked us a bit. We are a bit of a non traditional couple. It wasn't until after we performed the routine that we actually went out and decided to give a relationship a go. That was over 5 months ago, and it's going great!

I actually discovered that he really started to notice me as a "prospect" before the casting for the group routine, he was just too shy to do anything about it.

That's the short version anyway ....... :D

Mine was a bit of a suprise  ......

We've known eachother for about one year. He's the quiet nice guy type, which usually doesn't get my attention (as I'm usually surrounded by loud, lok-at-me types).

We would have a regular dance or two weekly, he usually buys me a water. Dance-wise, he's not one to melt me on the spot or anything, but competent.

I may have caught a glance or two when he looked like he was going to say something. But he never did.

One night I was in a cranky mood, having just rushed to the airport to drop Gupson Pierre (of Attitude in Singapore) off (after his club appearance), then having to rush back (to another club) for other social commitments. I was tired to the bones.....

He came along & asked me to dance. I turned him down & started to rant on about everything & nothing. He sat there quietly & took it all in......it must have been at least half an hour .......

I went home remembering this, and made a point to dance with him next week.

Next week came. I asked him for a dance. There we danced, song after song after song (which has never happened before). Even after they've changed the music.....we danced through R&B, reggaeton and everything else!

Half the time we were mucking around, laughing & almost rolling..... We danced badly, but I don't recall having so much fun in years :D !!!!

At the end of the night, neither of us really wanted to say goodbye. So I invited him to my friend SugarGlider's party on that weekend, which I was doing the catering.

He came along & quietly enjoyed himself, while I did the fussing with food & social butterfly duties. By the time everyone settles, I was tired. All the seats were taken at that point & he offered to share his beanbag with me.

I felt suprisingly comfortable so I accepted. That, was the beginning 8) ........

....here's a good one I've hear:

A girl I used to work with met her partner by accident. Literally.

He ran into the back of her car. They exchanged phone numbers & she went away furious.....

He called the next day, explaining that he has no insurance and offered to fix her car. He spent half a day getting nowhere, resolving to call in a professional, and asked her out for drinks .......

.....and that was how they got started......

my wife was my student for a year, left the studio for a while and then came back for her last 4 lessons and those were the lessons that really counted. :D

My mom tells me that she met my dad at a high-school dance when she was sixteen. (It was a rural community, so everybody was at the dance, not just kids.) He had just been discharged from the army -- WWII. When he walked in wearing his dress uniform, she said to her best girlfriend, "I'm going to marry that man." A year and a half later, she did. They've been married fifty-seven years. Not bad, huh?

how did you two meet

My husband and I were introduced by my dance partner who was a very good friend of my husband! I had a crush on my dance partner; it didn't go anywhere. Then I met my husband who was my type of guy. My dance partner and my husband used to go wakeboarding, and my dp invited me to come out on the boat after our first competition together. It was my husband-to-be's boat.
Actually, one of my dance teachers has decided that she's the one responsible for hooking me up with my husband--indirectly, of course. h

Good for her. She really knew what she wanted.

My grandfather was on his lunch break from work (construction) and was walking around - he saw my grandmother sitting on a park bench and decided that she had the greatest legs he'd ever seen, and that he needed to snatch her up before anyone else got her. At least that's how he tells it. :)

Two months later, they were married. I believe she was around 18 at the time, and they were still together when she died at age 75.

A British friend of mine (living in Egypt) used to go to Russia for work and she would go via Frankfurt. She met her husband in Frankfurt airport, while they shared a table for lunch on his way to Spain.

Clever girl...making use of her waiting time.:)

It amazes me how couples can stay together for so long.

Sometimes I think that one of the advantages of marrying late is that you don't have to spend too many years together  .
