Sore toes??

This is perhaps a very common question for all dancers: If you spend most of the time dancing on the ball of your foot, beside getting sore feet by the end of the night, what about sore toes? I had a VW class last night and this morning my toes were hurting like crazy when I tried to bend/stretch them, perhaps i just need more exercise??

I actually strained my toes when I got them stepped on. I too need to work on making them stronger.

And I can dance on the heel of my foot if I wnat to and do it for fun. I had a private once ad the salsa coach commented on how I danced on my heels. I chanegd then, but now can switch back and forth deliberately. 8)

Speaking of which, Sagitta, did you sprain your toe not too long ago? How is it now? I sprained my ankle about 2 months ago and it still hasn't 100% recovered!

Little toes are okay, but wearing shoes 24/7 to provide that support aggravated an old problem that I had. That flared up - impingement of the nerve in my big toes - and now I haven't danced for 2 weeks!

I was attending a dance weekend a couple of weeks ago - my first. Actually got a blister and as I was asking around the hotel desk for a bandaid, my dance instructor came up to say hi and asked how I was doing. I told him I had a blister and he said "Good for you!!" I looked at him strangely but he added, "that means you have been dancing a lot!"
So true! Good for me! I had a good time that weekend and the blister healed.

Good for you!! I almost got a blister last week from my 3-hour private lesson/group class/practice party. But because I wear strappy sandals a lot, i prefer to be staying from any foot injury.

I dance for hours non-stop and thus far I haven't had any problem with my feet. My thighs and calves were sore when I first started dancing, but they're pretty strong now. What matters is wearing comfortable shoes.

comfortable shoes, that's absolutely true. I started wearing runners with non-slip soles which caused a knee injury. Then I swtiched to strappy sandals which unfortunately resulted in a sprained ankle. Now I deligently put on my dance shoes whenever i have a class.... just had to learn things the hard way....

The blister was on the top of my foot - I had been wearing my dance sneakers. Fortunately the bandaid was a nude-color so when I put my sandals on that night, it didn't look too bad.

"nude-color" I lie your choice of words. 8)

My impinged nerves are getting better so I'm happier. :)

My toes don't hurt when I do Viennese Waltz, but I only spend about 15 minutes on it in lessons. My toes hurt from Latin and Rhythm. My teacher says he's not doing his job if my feet don't hurt--we've worked really hard to have me use the floor, really dig in, always pushing with the foot I've left, etc. I have toenails breaking off lately, too.
My yoga teacher has us practice spreading our toes, and (standing in tadasana--mountain pose) lifting only the big toe, lifting only the little toe, lifting just the middle three, etc. Also, she taught us all a foot massage we could do to ourselves, that included lacing the fingers of one hand between the toes, then turning the hand this way and that, or in a circular motion. This foot routine has been great after tough lessons or long nights dancing!
Another good exercise is putting a towel on the floor and scrunching it up with your toes, gathering it under your foot. This is much harder for my right toes than my left toes! Here's the link for the exercise on web md:

have a guy massage your feet at the end of the night and kiss your toes...

but for that, nice toes might be required...

Women, thank you so much for being warriors out there! :applause: Take a break once in a while and wear your capezios with some hot brazilian jeans or something like that... you'll still look HOT! 8)
