I suggest the front be tacked-down if lying below the neckline. Having the back strands swing free is a good plan. I like this idea. I agree with @bia.

I have used upholstery thread and then hand tacked. I haven't tried wire, not sure how that will lay. Also, not sure how the back is set up, but be sure that the man's hand can get to position without the pearls interfering. Sounds pretty, just some movement thoughts.

Where to buy feather trim that would look something like this? I have only seen ostrich (or turkey) fringe ribbons but they would be way too thin in one layer, and would make a hem too thick if sewn in several layers. Or is there some other technique? It looks to me like feathers are back in style again...

Hellooo all!
Quick question! Has anyone ever attempted to sewing in crinoline/soft boning into a skirt to make stripes? Like a band of crinoline around the bottom of the skirt attached to more fabric underneath it creating a sort of illusion panel? I have seen this on Pinterest but am struggling to figure out how they get it to sit so nice and flat on a circular skirt??? I’ve attempted to attach a photo from Pinterest..

All I can think of is that the crinoline is gathered on the top edge so that the bottom edge is the same circumference as top edge of the extra bit of skirt?

Oh I see. I like that too. Could it be a wide horsehair sewn to dress, then another row sewn to the horsehair edge? Or even 3 or 4 rows of a narrower one. Then sparkly trim sewn to horsehair to cover joins?

The crinoline is cut into the same shape as the skirt. So it is a cut on a curve, not a straight line. You shouldn't have any issue with having to gather the top to sew it into the skirt. It's an interesting look. I have seen this in smooth a few times, done with mesh, so it isn't as stiff. Nice if you want to show a little leg

Thank you!!! I only saw some of your messages now! I needed the dress in a bit of a hurry and was afraid of making a fatal mistake so decided to leave it for another time when I had more time to play! I ended up just pleating crinoline - relatively boring but effective!
