Standard Open Bronze/Silver

Many pro/am competitions have Open Bronze and Open Silver categories in addition to regular closed categories. My understanding is that the idea is to be able to dance more non-syllabus figures while still at a bronze or silver level of dancing, though this goes against my general belief that bronze/silver/gold are not "levels" but rather just figures in a syllabus (thus making "Open Bronze" a bit of a paradox). My question is, for standard, what are some figures which might be appropriate for Open Bronze (or Open Silver) in your opinion?

i think it gives the bronze & silver dancers more opportunities to dance & compete at their level of technical proficiency. so... to my mind any open figures would be acceptable. the challenge is, who among the bronze & silver levels can execute those figures with the highest degree of technical mastery.

i've considered trying an open silver event but, i've got my hands full for the moment.

I think you have to check the rules for that particular competition. At some places, anything goes in Open Bronze|Silver. At others Open Bronze means Bronze + first N steps of Silver....

But they ARE levels, MEDAL test levels . The whole purpose , like all tests, are to display a level of achievement .

When put into the comp. arena, they define the competitors, to a greater or lesser degree....

As to fig.. much would depend on the capabilty of the student, but some to consider.....
