Standard/Smooth suits and buttons falling off

I'd like some input on what other competitors do for the following situation. There are a number of buttons on the front of both my standard tail suit and my smooth jacket. The lady's connection to me happens to basically be against these buttons and eventually the threads of these buttons becomes stressed and the buttons will loosen and eventually fall off. In addition, these buttons are the fabric covered kind, and that also gets worn down to where eventually you will see the metal underneath.

What do other people do about this? Thanks! :)

sew them on more tightly...buy new ones (fabric store)....absent that, use black marker on the worn surface or get some thin black fabric and glue little covers over them....

as a side matter...you should see what those buttons do to our dresses....way worse :)

Yeah...I particularly liked the day when the button of his smooth suit caught on the hook and eye of my (front closing) smooth dress...interesting moment of being stuck together followed by a very near show of a different variety.

I have had the black microfibers make my dress look stained...and then of course there is the re-stoning that has to occur both there and where his hand is on my back

I reassess button integrity after every comp and have my tailor fix or replace them also key have them pinned when dry cleaning your suit so they aren't knocked off during processing

Replacements from a fabric store or from the maker if it was tailor-made. Same thing happened to some buttons on my Rhythm shirt, except the fabric part of my buttons actually fell off and exposed the (rather dangerous) metal parts rather than being worn out.

Oh Em Gee. My former partner and I used to talk about this all the time because my buttons (well, one specific button, really) would fall off all the time, no matter how securely they were stitched. We used to joke that we must have had a really good connection that day. I think at one point I tried a safety pin instead of thread, but that kind of just made the jacket facing pucker. I got a bag of replacement buttons from Black and Sons.

Meh. You should see what the stones on your ballgowns do to our jackets.

LOL i only recently got to do full costumes and experienced this phenomenon (which was new to me, since previously i've never danced standard with someone in a tailsuit). Our entire warm up i was pretty much solely concentrating on how the buttons might be taking off all the beautiful stoning on my gown LOL.

One of my ballgowns has a ruched bodice, and after finishing a Standard heat, I realized I was stuck on his buttons. As the music was ending, I loudly whispered "DON'T MOVE!" so he wouldn't spin me out and create a potential wardrobe malfunction.

I lost a button in the connection area too. I got a bag of 20 or so. I was planning on replacing all my buttons and sewing them on tighter, but the buttons were a perfect match except the backs were silver instead of black. Fixed that with a sharpie, replaced only the missing button, figure I can replace the others if they come off. And so I have 19 extra buttons, for whenever the next one falls off.
