stationary turns

Recommending a coach for private lessons is a tricky matter. Firstly, you have to try out a lot of different ones before you find the right one. And secondly, I only have a vague idea of your current problems. It seems to me that the most important thing is that you re-learn the basic movement techniques before you continue with lindy hop. Basically, any studied dance teacher or therapist can help you. Steps, figures and turns are secondary for you at the moment. I have looked at the CVs of some candidates:

Freiberg: Elazar Fayzulaev teaches at the Mosaik, at least occasionally. It would be an absolute stroke of luck if he still was in Freiberg and you could book privates with him. And don't be stingy again, invest at least a thousand euros! This will be the best investment of your life.

Dresden: Take trial lessons with Jaroslawa Hratsch, from the SemperMobilis school. Also try out Arthur Troitsky, who teaches at Pirouette. In Dresden also is Maria Magdalena Verburg, who teaches Cantiencica besides Tango. She is the only one on my list with whom I have already danced. She definitely knows all the muscles that you still try not to use and she definitely can help you with balance and coordination issues.

And please report!

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked up Elazar Fayzulaev, but he teaches in Freiberg am Neckar and not the Freiberg I live in. Also, 1000€ just on dancing is out of my budget anyway.

Dresden would only work on weekends and to be honest, after last Monday I am actually thinking about quitting. I learn things by understanding them, which always results in a lot of questions from me forcing the teachers (more advanced dancers) at my class to take longer breaks to explain. After having a lot of questions on Monday, I felt I had to apologize to the others in the group chat of my dance class, because I took so much time away from them to learn new stuff and killing their fun learning to dance. After nearly half of them thumbed up my promise to not ask questions anymore, I came to the conclusion that I am holding them back in progressing because I am so slow at learning. Maybe, just stepping back or quitting entirely is the right thing to do. Right now I just feel awful and that dancing isn't something I can do.

Anyways, thank you for taking the time to research for teachers that might be able to help me and sorry for wasting your time.

Other way round: dancing is your last chance to learn how to move. Take it as a therapy. It will change your life. Learn from the ground up. You have to be able to crawl on all fours before you can stand up and dance.

It is time well spent.

My therapy is swimming actually. It is the only thing I can turn off my head at least a little by just staring at the tiles and count them. Unless of course I do drills to learn freestyle, but even then it is easier to turn off my head than in learning to dance.

But maybe you are right about seeing dancing as therapy. But then I still need private lessons I guess, because I would still hold back the group and after their reaction I don't really feel welcome there anymore.

But there are dance schools in Dresden, maybe one of them teaches on weekends as well and is affordable enough to fit in my budget.

Thanks again for your advice!

Thumbs ups are hard to interpret. Just because they appreciate you apologizing and saying you wouldn't ask as many questions, doesn't mean they dislike you or don't want you there. It might just mean that they think it was a classy thing to do.

I know you feel like you need to know everything before you can do it, but be cautious about this. You are learning from people who probably don't have a detailed understanding themselves. They may be able to do it better than they can explain it.

(deleted referral as I just realized the event was in a different Frieberg as well).

I have my doubts about your interpretation since most of the guys who thumbed up the post were those who rolled their eyes on my questions. I think they are just annoyed since I am pretty much the only one asking questions every time.

Oh yes they don't. They often tell us, they are not dance teachers and they might be wrong as well. Nonetheless, they are for sure far superior to me and my skill. So I listen to them and ask questions if I have them. Ok, I asked them and won't do it any longer. There isn't time for it anyways. After the course we usually quickly transition to the social dance and I don't want to interupt them enjoying dancing after the stress of teaching me.

Yes, it actually was in Freiburg im Breisgau and not in Freiberg in Saxony. For most people this is really confusing and you are not the only person I know. Anyways, thank you again for taking out of your day to help!
