The only thing I'd recommend is make the tandas a hair shorter- like 4 songs for tango, 3 for vals and milonga and 3 for Nuevo/Dramatic since the songs tend to me longer, especially Nuevo.

And also that as a DJ you have some control over the crowd and how it moves, too, so if they are getting out of hand, be prepared to pull your Dramatic/Nuevo tandas for something a little more down key. SO I'd have some back up tandas stored to insert in case of problems.

Same goes for if the crowd has no energy, you can insert something spicy to get them moving. So have back up plans for this if you don't already.

Is this a part list? I'm assuming so as if we estimate 3 minutes a tune you've got about 2- 2 1/2 hours worth there.

Yes I would also have fewer songs per tanda. And would vary composers a bit more - you dont want to have too much Canaro !

Good luck with your evening :)

true- I'd spread the Canaro out a bit, though you only have one tanda of each style tango, milonga, vals.

But consider inserting some D'Arienzo and Miguel Calo. I've always liked Calo's version of Verdemar.

You've also got a Biagi set going, why disrupt it with songs of an entirely different feel and Orchestra?

There is also some very nice Rodriguez that really is nice tango: like Como Has Cambiando Pebeta, Como Se Pianta La Vida, and Llorar Por Una Mujer but I really like Rodriguez.

Maybe save the offbeat Rodriguez for it's own tanda like Cap Jep did?

Firpo is always good for vals.

How about Demare?

You might also look at Pedro Laurenz- he also did a lovely verison of Amurado (though I love the Hugo Diaz version).

I agree with what has already been said. I don't know what is customary in your area, but where I am, typically the tandas are arranged in one of these patterns.

T3 - T3 - V3 - T3 - T3 - M3
or
T4 - T4 - V3 - T4 - M3

T = tango
V = Vals
M = milonga
3 or 4 indicates the number of songs in the tanda.

One of these cycles typically takes close to an hour (typically just under).

Towards the end of the night (when people start to slow down), some DJs will go off of their pattern and skip either the milonga and/or a vals tanda.

which people?

I would not go beyond 4 pieces per tanda, too, although it is widely done. Everyone has his own preferences: I would mix the orchestras a little bit more. Stay within the style, period, and tempo, but change the interprets within a tanda.

Could you tell us a bit about the people, audience, dancers at your venue? How old are they, why do you avoid neo- and non-tango pieces?

Sometimes people dance to the Cortina music. Do you play a whole song as Cortina?

My favorite tango composers are Canaro and Donato, this is why there are so many Canaro and Donato songs in my list :)

I have enough time to rearange my list, maybe I should focus on mixing the orchestras...The people in the milonga will be mostly young, from 20 to 40.

My cortinas are very short, just 30 seconds.

Just couple of comments; to add to the above:

Hugo Diaz works next to Electrocutango because of the predominance of the bandoneon sound but I dont think it works next to the two traditional tracks. Another hugo Diaz would be better.

La Mariposa is a swissfiddling difficult piece to dance to, beautiful though it may be.
Its all rests and off-beat accents.
even Chicho cant really do it justice :(

Thanks for your advice I am gonna change it and I will probably add another Diaz song to my list.

I know its very hard to dance with Pugliese's La Mariposa but I like Pugliese's interpretation most.

By the way, I totally agree with you, Chicho's dance looks terrible on that video, I dont like Chicho's style anyway...

"La tablada" is not a milonga and "Al pasar" is a vals.
Also as far as Tanturi's tanda is concerned, people usually don't mix the singers Castillo ("Pocas palabras") and Campos ("Una emocion") as they are considered too divergent. But why not after all:)...
Otherwise, good job for a first playlist.

When in doubt, you might want to consult the database at

It is not a question of style in this instance, its a case of musicality and interpretation
I was just looking to see if there was an example of someone dancing well to Mariposa. I couldnt find one though I did find a clip of Pugliese himself playing it.(on youtube)
