Suitable Latin Dresses

Hey guys!

I haven't been on for a while because of assignments, homework, etc etc. But I'm back now and will try to get on more often.;)

Anyway, I've recently gotten a partner (Finally!!) and I've been told to start looking for dresses to compete in. I'm fine with the ballroom dress, it's the latin dress that's the problem. The majority of the latin dresses I've seen for sale are quite revealing and sexy- not suitable for a 14 year old!

So, does anyone know of a website or store that would sell latin dresses of a more innocent nature? And what do you think is acceptable on a young girl? I've been told I look more like a 17 year old, I just hope that they're not still telling me I look older when I'm 40.

Cheers, MBB.:D

Hi Miss! If you're in the US and will be competing in USA Dance events, you will be in (at lowest) the Junior II age group. Junior II's follow the same rules as Youths and Adults, so you will see a HUGE variety of costumes on girls your age -- just warning you :)

I have an idea, though -- try looking at the things Maria Manusova has worn over the years. Many of her outfits were quite tasteful and covered up. That will give you some ideas as to what is possible. Also, look at high-end practice wear -- people have been talking about it lately, like stuff from Chrisanne and Espen Salberg. You could get something like that and stone it, for instance.

Also, if you see anyone in a costume you like and thin is appropriate, ask them who made it and if its for sale. You never know! And if nothing else then you'll get some leads on who could possibly make you a suitable costume.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks Laura! No, I won't be competing in the US (at least, not yet.) I'm in Australia and I've gone to watch quite a few comps so I've seen what some of the girls wear. (Yikes!)

Thanks again.

Not all latin dresses are skimpy little bikinis. :p I've seen some lovely ones that are considerably covered up, the "turtleneck" dress being a good example.

Black skirt and black stocking. It has a classy look, if you can get black latin shoes, it would work perfectly with the stocking. Latin skirt don't have to be short, some of the ones I really like are knee length (one side is longer than the other) with slight tight fitting so it doesn't flare up too much when spinning. The stocking will give you more modesty.

Congratulations on finding a partner too!
