Well, yes, you have a lot of drop outs, but anyone who sticks with it gets the picture after a while. If you manage a few months once reality hits.
Ask questions, meet dancers, and be part of the conversation.

Not good publicity, and very dispiriting, to have a high attrition rate. The news spreads to other prospective customers.Well, yes, you have a lot of drop outs, but anyone who sticks with it gets the picture after a while.
We can't uninvent social media, so the reality is, love 'em or hate 'em, dance photos and videos are a thing, and are unlikely to go away.'Personal' is fine; shared with the world isn't (that includes large FB 'private' groups).
Breaking news: CNN reported that in addition to names, photos, social media profiles and even home addresses appearing to belong to the jurors have been shared online on various platforms including pro-Trump forums and websites that have been linked to extremist attacks.I'm bemused at the idea that having your picture posted on social media is a security threat.
But exercise some responsibility and good manners. We can't uninvent social media, so the reality is, love 'em or hate 'em, dance photos and videos are a thing, and are unlikely to go away.
I want the public image to match the reality. If the public image is Dancing With the Stars (or Strictly...) then people who want to show off and do lifts and high kicks will show up and be disappointed. The people we want to encourage to try us out are the ones who will enjoy the ronda and working with the connection to the music, but would be turned off by high kicks.
That cat jumped out of the bag since Steve Jobs put camera on every phoneThis seems to be the underlying issue - too many 'happy snappers' being inconsiderate whatever the legalities.
Generally true. But it puts people in a specific place and associations. That cat jumped out of the bag since Steve Jobs put camera on every phone
Compare to everyday life where so many around you are taking pics, milonga is relatively safe sanctuary from the camera.
I like to believe that too...but do we actually know? Besides, as @Rabbit puts it "Photos of tango events don't actually influence the public image anyway since only people already in the community view them."No way, at all! ...I always have to explain that this is not the real Argentine tango."...But maybe the other imagine would draw more people...?"
This is one of those 'can't please all of the people all the time' things. Most people welcome photos, indeed actively seek them out after events. So what you would (presumably) consider 'responsibility and good manners' would disappoint the vast majority. But exercise some responsibility and good manners.
Yep, a good topic of a separate thread.a separate thread: how did you guys come into tango, what drew your attention in the first place?
Sort of agree. Those which do exist as promotional materials do, however, show clips (blurred faces, feet, or bodies only, so unidentifiable) people enjoying themselves dancing socially, or warm-ups, or group classes. Maybe they've given permission. Maybe that promo style, at least a part, of a marketing strategy which isn't quite working.Photos of tango events don't actually influence the public image anyway since only people already in the community view them.
No. You go to a milonga or other large AT gathering which clearly tells you that images may be taken and published online - fine, you sign up to that by entering. You might ask whoever is videoing to avoid you, but it happens.'responsibility and good manners'
By having been involved in other aspects of dance, being at a loose end on vacation in Switzerland, still recovering from dance-related injury, and seeing social AT, not performance. More a question of: How did they do that without choreography? Then searching out social AT at home location and attending classes. Fortunately, then, finding a ballroom teacher who actually understood social AT and getting better. Subsequently getting better teachers and contacts.how did you guys come into tango, what drew your attention in the first place?
