Tango and football

OK football is what everyone outside the USA calls the sport of soccer. Yes I know you probably know that. Now that we've got that out of the way :

Reasons tango is like football

1. You play on a defined field.
2. You move your legs and try to keep your arms out of the way.
3. Fancy footwork looks good but doesnt usually fool anyone.

Reasons tango is not like football

1. In tango bad dancers dont get sent off the field. Unfortunately.
2. In tango you dont have a ball (though some people like to use balloons).
3. You make up tango as you go along. Unlike in football where you have an advisor that you can discuss tactics with. (Hmm - no - knowing how girls talk amongst themselves maybe this isnt quite true.. :p )

Feel free to add your reasons to this utterly pointless thread.. (I only added it cos we've got to have one thread about footie during the World Cup - yes?) ...

Reasons tango is like football:

- there is an approved direction of movement, and everyone moving the other way is regarded as a problem
- kicking people in the shins is considered bad form
- high feet are hazardous
- all the 'players' are looking for space
- some people fake injuries so they can sit down for a bit
- it's better when spectators stay out of the 'playing area'

Reasons tango is not like football
- not everybody wants to score
- grass stains are far less likely
- people don't normally start in the middle of the area
- falling over isn't going to bring tactical advantage
- gender balance is generally seen as preferable
- we don't all go and take a shower together afterwards

:applause: wanw!

Reason tango is like football :

The better you are at it the more boring it looks to an onlooker (even if occasionally you see flashes of brilliance)

Reason tango is not like football :

"Dancing defensively" does not mean grabbing someone's shirt and pushing them down to the floor

Reasons tango is not like football:

Dancers who misbehave don't get yellow-carded on their first offense and ejected on their second.

Being from the USA, I didn't know that... so its good that you pointed it out.

OK.. probably a lot of other people in the States do know... I'm just much of a sports nut.

Pleasure!

The USA team is actually pretty good. You drew with England on Saturday.

I dont think England would have scored a draw if we'd been playing you at the other sort of football

Fixed that for you.

lol. Dont you love how everyone in England goes through a period of blind optimism at the start of a world Cup. And then it all goes horribly wrong..

I'm thinking of growing a thick moustache and calling myself Jose. Oh and pretending to be Spanish.

More paella anyone?
