Yeah, I don't mind watching a performance for one song, but I can think of only one occasion* on which I've been happy with watching the classic three. Most of the time, I'm the grumpy one in the corner muttering 'Get off my dance floor' under my breath. :pomp:

Can't say I feel quite the same way. I had heard some time ago from the organiser of a workshop with imported teachers that the 'performance' cost more in the package. It was a price she reckoned that participants couldn't afford, and wouldn't pay for. So, we didn't get the performance. That one wasn't missed.

At the milonga following other workshops, the teachers have been better and the performance worthwhile. And they usually also dance with the participants.

It all depends on the milonga, the performers and the occasion. As has been said, you can go to the toilet - or get a drink and take a rest whilst being sociable. It isn't a competition to get in as many tandas as possible.

Could be interesting, depending on the location. Seem like a nice balance of tango and sightseeing and relaxation.

Don't know this couple at all, but nice, very smooth dancing to a lovely song. At local milongas, I almost never care for performances; it's not what I'm there fore and I often end up sitting in the back away from the dance floor anxiously waiting for the DJ to start again.

Yes I saw that one. Besides registrations being closed, Copenhagen would expensive :) Money to be spent is still a significant factor when there are multiple options.
 
I have known about the festivals from other dancers. Having actively searched I am surprised at the range of options every weekend in Europe. Where in my experience most places are accessible within an hour or two flight time for rather cheap. It probably costs me more to drive total 150-200Kms each time for a few local milongas a week. I can see how some one living in Europe could build a lifestyle entirely around visiting milongas or festivals on the weekend :) Getting bored? Plan to dance a weekend in Berlin or Paris, or Barcelona, or Zagreb or Istanbul (a little further than 2 hrs) or any other place!

Yeah but when you add in travel time to and from the airport and waiting at the airport it's more like 6 or 7 hours, so if I'm going to travel I want to do more than dance for a weekend.

You're absolutely right. 'Cheap' and 'fast' used to be the case long ago. Maybe it will get that way again. And at the time of writing, 6-7 hours could be the time it takes just to get through an airport to a cancelled/re-scheduled flight - and then not getting your luggage. It's not looking good for Easter travel:oops:. Maybe that's just to/from UK, but those disrupted flights have a knock-on effect throughout Europe.
 
I suspect aviation will never be as cheap again. Airlines used to fly unprofitable services, and even entire unprofitable routes, because it helped them meet bigger strategic goals (like winning exclusive contracts for corporate travel, which requires them to serve all major business destinations).

After two years of lost business, even the biggest ones can no longer afford to do this, so now each flight needs to pay its way. BA, for example, couldn't afford to run a half-full BsAs flight and a somewhat fuller Sao Paolo flight – so now the BsAs flight goes via SP, and almost every seat is filled.

That's being reflected in pricing. When I booked my flights, it was £1500 return for Premium Economy. A few weeks later, someone trying to book the same seat on the same flight was being quoted £2250 one-way – and and being told they'd better book immediately as there was just one seat left.

May as well also throw in rail, road and ferry as well.

Not just the consequences of the pandemic, but the war and consequences in Ukraine. In-country intercity rail fares, never cheap, have increased, as have some travel times. Prices for both carbon-based fuels and electricity for EVs have increased, and some ferries to and from this small, insignificant, island in the uncharted backwaters on the edge of the less fashionable parts of Europe have been cancelled (inexperienced replacement crew).

On the other hand, London does have a public transport system and night buses.

Ouch, 1500? Did you book really late? A friend just went for half that amount.

Whoa, that's expensive. Flights from NYC were far less expensive. Still are, I believe although I haven't checked.

BA has the monopoly on that route, unfortunately. You can get cheaper flights via Madrid, but that adds a fair bit of time to what is already a long flight.

Things are probably a bit better from the US, as more than one US airline serves BsAs – but even so, prices have increased substantially.
