Tango in NYC

It looks like I'm going to be sent to NY for a few days in early July. Any recommendations for places to go dancing? I'll be right by Times Square, and I'll be there Monday-Wednesday.

Any and all help and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

If you can do high kicks you can join the girls at radio city music hall.

Unfortunately the best milongas in NYC don't really happen during Mondays-Wednesdays but here are some recommendations:
There is quite a big milonga on Mondays at Dance Manhattan - Luna tango salon, but it's not that well attended during the summer months.
For Tuesdays, the milonga at Triangulo is the most popular.
On Wendesdays there is an alternative milonga ( about 2/3 neo-tango and alternative music actually). If you can't stand that, as an alternative to the alternative you might want to try the Corazon milonga which is very near Times Square. I have to admit I still haven't checked out this last one though, as it is relatively new.

That's super, thanks for the info. Any recommendations for Thursday-Friday? I am going to NYC end of July :)

I don't get out as much during the week as I would like to, but a woman I danced with on Sundays says her favorite Tango place on Monday is Lafayette Grill. If the weather is nice the outdoor Volvo tango events can be nice, I haven't been yet this year, but last year the few that I got to had a small, friendly group of hardcore Tango aficionados. Tuesday afternoon there is a Lunchtime Milonga at South Street Seaport, I went for the 1st time last week - only a few tangueros, a lot of people there for the free beginner's lesson. Everyone enjoyed the demonstration by the teachers Anton & Sergio of men dancing in the way of the historic men's practica of BsAs. They also host the Wednesday evening Cocktail Milonga at Stella restaurant, I haven't been but have heard good things about it. On Tuesday triangulo is popular with the after work tango crowd, it's a little small - only one bathroom that the ladies also use to change clothes in. Someone mentioned that the host of the tuesday milonga @ Lafayette grill will do a birthday dance for her. On Wednesday Gabriel Misse and Natalia Hills will perform at Lafayette Grill, I love them so I'll try to get there (and suffer for it on Thursday morning). Corazon Milonga in times square is new, but it's hosted by a woman who hosts another very popular milonga called the "All Night Milonga".

Locations etc. for all the above can be found at Richard Lipkin's

I didn't feel that comfortable mentioning concrete milongas, but now that I've started it and that I'm not alone anymore, let's continue...
The popular milonga on Thursdays is La Nacional and on Fridays, The East Village Ukrainian Restaurant.

...And a general advice to visitors: The NYC tango scene tends to be rather conservative (or cliquey, depending on the point of view) in the sense that a lot of people avoid dancing with strangers. The chances of sitting for hours or being invited only by our local tango eccentrics (or village idiot types, again, depending on the viewpoint) are quite high.
So, ladies, don't be shy and at least once, in the beginning, take the initiative and invite someone who can dance...
