Tango in times of pandemic

We don't want to create a perverse incentive for people who haven't been infected yet to deliberately ignore all precautions on the basis that if they get infected and recover they can at least get their "freedom" back though...

The antibody tests are very important, however, because they'll give us a much better idea of what the actual infection numbers are (estimates range from 10x the number of currently tested positives, or ~0.2%, up to 50% of the population)
Are these tests in widespread use anywhere?

Does it realle matter what we (who?) want (for others)?
It will just happen. My task this morning is to keep things in the right order like standing up, taking a shower (cold also), meditation (open window), coffee & breakfast, reading the news, dancing (sic!), home office.
I dance currently only with my SO. If we (she&me) will be immune ore we have the impression that the health system can handle the situation, then we will consider to invite friends for dancing. And these friends are old enough to decide themselves whether they should accept or decline.

I've had that argument used about some milongas and lessons which wanted to stay open. I disagree - strongly. We all have a responsibility to others. Do I want to be the cause of someone coming and passing on the virus, or in other times some other disease? If the consequences of that are creating additional work for the health services in a difficult time? Maybe the direct contact isn't a direct mortality, which would be bad, but someone they pass it on to.

Unfortunately, as we've seen by the general population's behaviour (panic buy, let's party, go on holiday, family gathering, large public gatherings, etc.) age is no guarantee of common sense. Nor are government instructions. But we need to at least try to be sensible and people need protection from their own stupidity. A last tanda isn't always worth it.

I know you said that you want to know that people are immune or the impression that health system can handle it, but we really need to know it's safe for people first - and not just the little group who start spreading the virus again.

Once we know we're immune (through testing), we will hold some small informal dances with friends who have also been tested. No risk there, as we will all be immune and non-infectious.

These are general risk assements that everybody has to perform every day.
Most of us can fast or starve for a week or two. So is moderate hunger a reason to leave home? For me - yes, I'll go shopping today. And my stockpile is filled well, I only need fresh vegetables and meat.

Those who criticized organizers that wanted to stay open when pubs, clubs and other nightlife also stayed open are wrong to do so.
That was at a time when the advice was to close. Other milongas had been sensible and closed; these people were dismissing it as 'mild flu'.

It's said of the UK's leader that he looks which way the crowd is going, and then runs round to be in front, shouting 'follow me'. It took sports bodies to voluntarily close before the government took action. Look at Spain & Italy - the UK is about 2 weeks behind. Was it a good idea to stay open? The problem was it was just 'advice'; stronger measures were recommended, but money rules. Depends whether you put someone's life over the pleasure of dancing. Sometimes you've got to take the lead - even if, with hindsight, it was wrong.

My point is dancing is a tiny fraction of the potentially infectious social activity that was going on anyway, and should just stop/start in sync with other social activity.

I stopped dancing a few weeks before other social activities because I suspected a higher risk of infection. Nevertheless, I had no solid opinion about who should stop his milonga (visits) at which point in time.

The point is that tango is a partner dance and therefore manipulation is an integral part of social activity. So we influence others to dance with us, with a comfortable dance style, to music we like, on milongas that we visit.

And now it’s all gone. It is understandable that people are trying to somehow continue to influence our behavior. And it is our very own task to recognize and prevent this. Others will act as always, we can rely on that, we can take that into account.

So you aren't considering that government and health officials
instructions to physically distance yourselves from others important
enough to observe? Only your impression matters? You must be nuts
or impossibly selfish.

I am stuck in Buenos Aires currently. This country is showing the way,
possibly based on their knowledge of the impossibility of this
country to respond to a massive outbreak. So their response is to be
realistic in seriously and pro-actively reducing its spread by all the
isolation and self-distancing measures necessary.

They are working very hard in this difficult and rather unruly country
to impose some discipline. Today's figure are very encouraging - we have
to hope the trend continues. The rather quietly spoken undramatic
new President is proving to be impressive under duress and he is
continuing to show the way by having, as he expressed it, put people
before the economy. Actually he might have gone some long way to
saving both from a far worse fate.

As far as milongas are concerned they stopped voluntarily before
the Argentine government introduced any controls because the dangers
quickly became obvious. They were concerned about infectious foreigners,
ironic really since I know of no milonga related infection and the outbreak
here wasn't instigated by foreigners but from infection imported by
returning Argentines from abroad - Italy, Spain and the USA mainly.

Really? I wrote that I only dance with my partner. And here in Germany this absolutely compliant with the current official instructions.
OMG, you flew to Buenos Aires? Didn't you worry about the climate crisis and your carbon footprint? Isn't that quite selfish?

No, you wrote . . Oh what the heck.
I wont bother, you've made my point about
your attitude already.

If people had never travelled to BsAs and Argentines
abroad none of us would never have known Tango.
The climate crisis has its roots in 200 years of
industrialisation, development and population explosion
going way back before us.
Mankind is maybe threatened by it's own success.

Argentina will be a lesson to Europe while we watch,
half in horror, developments at home in France and UK.

Please tell us John em , what is Argentina doing now that we are not ?
I know we were late with lockdown . In the Uk , but now ..are we not all on the same page ?
