Hello everyone. I am planning a trip to Buenos Aires for at least an entire month. I'd like to dance a lot and take lots of classes. I hope to take tours and go to other parts of the country as well but mostly BA. I also want to practice and learn Spanish. Is anyone going to travel to Argentina in or around March 2012? Since it's my first time and I really don't know anyone there, I would really enjoy some company. I am a single woman in my 30's. I'm open to any ideas/suggestions as well. Thanks!
 
Traveling with another person in a foreign country can work out well, or poorly, or anything in between. Another possibility is to go by yourself, then attend tango classes where you will meet lots of other students who you can chose to hang out with, or not.

Have been been taking lessons or dancing TA where you live?
Are you interested in any particluar style of dance or music?
 
I know some people who went on a two-week or so tour last year. It was organized so they had some group activities, but they also had freedom to go their separate ways whenever they wanted. It seemed to work out well for them.

Whatever you decide to do, have fun!

I visited BA some time ago. Although I've mostly danced ballroom, I took a private lesson and a group class at a local studio. My group classmates were friendly and quite pleased to discover that their visitor had some dance background. They invited me to join them later in the week for more dancing. Alas, my travel plans did not allow this, but my experience leads me to agree with AndaBien.

I had a similar experience with salsa in Belfast. (Yes, I know that Belfast is not to salsa what BA is to TA. The point holds regardless, I think.)

A group from the Boston Area is planing to go there in March. It might be worth contacting the organizers to see if it is of interest to you.

I do dance Tango at home. But since none of my immediate tango buddies are available for travel at this time, I am asking friends of friends and extending my network for input etc. I do hope to also meet people along the way in classes or other activities. That's a great idea. I'm open to all options right now as I continue to compose my itinerary.

You may have difficulty in arranging lodging since those who come during summer book ahead. Try to find space at one of many tango guest houses where you'll be in the company of other foreigners and conveniently located to the milongas. The hosts speak English.

You're obviously independent, so I recommend traveling alone, not with a group tour that charges for everything in advance.
