The art of building snowmen

Any tips/pointers? Anything you wish you knew before hand? Anything you would like to share? *Is* there an art/technique in building snowmen?

My tip? Not all snow is created equal.

Wettish, large-flaked snow is best. Sometimes, a very dry, fine-flaked snow will fall. Not good for snowmen, IMO. It doesn't stick together well.

Yup, and not all hills are created equal.

Push the snowball off a large steep hill. Preferablly with no yellow snow in the way.

To liven things up a bit (without the help of the family dog) mix some food coloring with water, put it in a spray bottle and mist it on the snow. I had great fun making a green alien a few years ago.

yah, there wouldnt be enough right now here...

I miss living in canada where the snow was plentiful, the hills were steep, and we didnt own any dogs...

*sniff*

i love it when we get fluffy snow, they're not very good to build snowmen with but they feel so.....fluffy!

 I bet you did! Probably won't have time to buy food colouring and a spray bottle, but I shall certainly file it away for another time

Yes, funnily enough, I did think that the different types of snow would affect the snowman making process. Heck, it affects the British trains ability to function, so why not something more complex as snowman making!
