The intricacy of simplicity

Over on the AT Video section, opendoor had started a thread called "Less is more."

A person new to AT had commented that, "... Nothing "flashy" and the steps are not too complicated."
No big deal, no offense taken, and totally understandable as this is a common observation from non-AT, or new to AT peeps.

In my attempt to explain the why we admire this simple stuff, I included a link from my latest post on my blog.

Thought I'd share it here too: "The intricacy of simplicity"

It's always the simple stuff that's hardest to do well. Simple != easy, by any means.

DH talks about the "Mozart Effect" with piano: at a certain stage in life, or experience, pianists suddenly "get" Mozart, and come to an appreciation for the incredible difficulty in the relatively simple music.

Something that I told my son years ago (when practicing one of the several instruments he plays), "One measure of greatness is by being able to play difficult stuff well, but another is by playing simple stuff and making it special".

I've always felt that same principle applied to Tango. Walking is more simple (and easier) than many other things in tango, but can you make it special.

Beautifully said!

I recall seeing an Argentinian rugby player being interviewed on TV a little while ago, just after Argentina won a major game (don't ask me which!). Asked what the secret of the Argentinians' success was, he replied 'We do the simple things well, and with passion'. I thought to myself, he may play rugby, but he has the soul of a tango dancer.

Yep and dont forget the steaks too....

(Nice blog Amps)

ps Im just musing - Argentina is presumably one of the biggest producers of "corned beef". I love it, but healthy food/real meat it aint. Is this a case of exporting the rubbish and keeping the good stuff to yourself ? :p

I'm not sure about the corned beef production, but I've heard that in case of steaks, the nicest meat is exported abroad and the second rate meat is left in Argentina. If you go to the tourist joints in BAires you are likely to come across a not so nice piece of steak.
