The job of a comp registrar

Depends what software package the comp is using to scrutineer. For O2CM, your job will be almost entirely online. You'll need to:

  • Sort out competitors who have been registered twice because they didn't bother to communicate with their partner.
  • Fix payment issues, competitors who registered for events but didn't add a ticket to their account.
  • Fix registrations where the couple registered the lady as the leader.
  • Change entries for couples who entered the wrong thing.
  • Audit entries for correct age levels.
  • Audit entries for number of skill levels or age levels.
With COMPMNGR, most NDCA comps—it's been years since I entered one—AFAIK still use paper registration (part of the insulating the studio markup rates from the pro/am competitor). I think you will basically need to transcribe all the paper entries into an electronic format that COMPMNGR can use. Maybe one of the NDCA registrars can clarify.

Right?? It seems like an interesting job for some of us administrative people...and I feel like I could be good at it. I also wonder how one gets into the job. I'm assuming there are some politics involved as job listings for registrars don't seem to be advertised.
 
Well, you need to know organizers. When they decide to organize a new comp, you show interest in helping. If they know and trust you, that might be one of the jobs you get. It will not be the only job you get. Most registrars do other things for the comp too, which can be anything like volunteer arrangements, or being a deck captain for a few shifts. Some of this depends on how big the comp is, and how many people are working/volunteering. Some comps even have multiple registrars.
