The moments that make it worth it...

It doesn't matter whether you're training to compete, or just to be competent on a dance floor, but whenever you put a lot of effort into reaching a goal, you're going to reach at least one point where you realize that it's all been "worth it". It may be something that happened or a compliment that somebody gave you, but what are some of your experiences that just caused you to sit back with a huge smile on your face and realize that all of your effort has been worth it just for that moment?

when you lose yourself in the music and are actually dancing without consciously thinking about your steps....

Or, the tiny milestone might be..... when i stop stepping on someone ....

I'm still waiting for that moment. I had the most fun when at my first comp when I was a newcomer. No pressure, no expectations.. just excitement and fun. Of course I enjoy dancing, but for me it comes with a huge opportunity cost as I have given a lot up for it. Was it worth it? in hind sight.. I'm not sure.

acouple of weeks ago I danced two waltzes at a party...one with my teacher and one with a guy notorious for only freestyling by himself and leaving his follows in the dust....I followed my teacher like a dream even thought he stesp bore no resemblance to any routine and wre in fact above my level ...and followed this other guy just as well...and it was heaven...plus three guys said how light I was in their arms...not only that but I am realizing how much like family my dance community real and virtual is becoming...nice...definately worth it

When in a brief moment in time a dreamer like me would be transformed to a prince waltzing in an elegant palace, a dazzling latin lover in tango embrace with the woman of my dreams, or just a having a wild time in Studio 54. It's a make believe world with endless roles to play. The best part I could always go back to my old self when things are not the way they're suppose to be.

I'm not new to DF, just a new name since I cannot log in with my old one.

When I first started learning to dance with technique there was a woman who would mostly only dance swing with me. Now she enjoys dancing the other dances I know with me. So that's nice.

When beginners complain that they can't dance and tell me, but you can dance and then I assure them that one day, it'll be alot easier. Then I realize That I'm not that bad.

When in my last competition, an expectator (16-20 years old) say:
"You have inspired me to start taking dance lessons." There is nothing like comments from people that appreciate your dancing.

I used to enjoy only placing, now it is about feeling. When a person comes up to you and tells you how good you looked and they tell you that you are the only couple out there that makes them feel ....... then you know you did the right thing.

When I've had a bad day and then I come to dance practice, and it puts me in a better mood.

When I'm dancing to a great song, and I just feel the music in my bones.

When I'm dancing with a great partner, and the connection is so good it's effortless, like we're reading each other's minds.

When a step that hasn't been working finally seems to flow.

When I see myself on tape, and it looks better than the last time I saw it.

When someone comes up to me after a performance or competition and tells me that they really enjoyed my dancing (especially if it was a judge;)).

When I get on the scale and realize I dropped a couple of pounds just from dancing.

And so many more...

It's always worth it. :)
