The open blackpool 2022

I like their dancing. I only discovered them last year, they have such a clean dancing style.

Latin Professionals just finished first heats. My studio managers are among the dancers.
Studio managers are now in the quarter final :). It must be so cool to make it that far at Blackpool.

Maybe Warren or someone else with knowledge of Standard can explain this. In Quickstep, most people seem to be going around in a circle. Yet, in every heat there is a couple (sometimes two or three) who cuts across the floor diagonally, often nearly crashing at one point with other couples. Is that normal?
When dancing the long side, coming diagonally to the center and cutting back to the corner of the long side is pretty common, and yeah there can be some congestion in the center if couples don't feel like adjusting their directions to floor availability. If there are couples going from one corner to the opposite corner, skipping the short side, well, that wouldn't be a "normal" plan, but might happen depending on circumstances.

Stefano and Anna won. I'm not sure I agree with that, but good for them!

Slavik was a judge. I cannot stop wondering what this must feel like for him, Anna winning Blackpool with Stefano. Him and Anna never won it. And it's not like Slavik wasn't amazing.

But this isn’t really “blackpool” - it’s not the British Open/ Blackpool dance festival. This is a totally new competition this year, different band, different location in blackpool- the tower instead of the the winter gardens.

I have no idea what it would be like for him, but he’s been judging a while- I would hope he didn’t hold grudges.

Oh, I don't think he would hold grudges. But he was pretty intense about his partnership with Anna, based on that documentary, yet they never won.

Maybe this wasn't the Winter Garden, but the finals had pretty big names in it.

Could someone please explain (or point me to somewhere where I can learn more about) the drama happening right now between the WDO & WDC?

He did get second at blackpool with Karina, though. they had a really successful partnership.

A second for Slavik, considered one of the greatest Latin male dancers of all time and in his prime, certainly heaps better than Stefano now (in my view ever), was hardly satisfying. I'm sure he is gracious enough to be happy for Anna, especially since her comeback wasn't that much different than Slavik's with Karina, but still. I couldn't help wondering about his feelings while judging Stefano and Anna.

As for Nino (second), did you see his face in the lineup? Funny thing is, he and Stefano practically grew up together, dancing at the same club etc. :). But maybe he was just exhausted, he actually quit doing jive several beats before the music stopped.

i missed his face. honestly i would expect nino and andra to be more peeved at losing to someone coming back from retirement - maybe he was irritated and let it show?

it's hard, anna is just amazing - any bobble in her feet literally never shows in her upper body or face at all. I love nino and andra, they are my one of my top favs, i'm biased toward couples with a woman who's more of a power dancer. But stefano and anna together are better than i expected.

i never know where to find scoresheets, if they post them, for these comps, it would be interesting to see how the marks came down. i know everyone had straight places overall but always interesting to see the full marks.

Yes, that's a good word. Nino looked positively "peeved." And it would be amazing to see the scoresheets for sure!
